He was one of my favorites. Had a brother on the team. Think his name was Mike, and he played offensive line. Called him Heavy Eddie sometimes, but he will always be Meat Cleaver!!

96 tackles in a season. Different game back then. I miss that kind of football vs today’s spread, holding allowed, can’t hit offensive players version.

One of the greats. I think Herschel said he was never hit harder than by him in practice. Surprisingly not much of a pro career I can recall. Took the USFL money initially.

I remember one time a reporter asked him: “Why do they call you meat clever?” Eddie replied : “Suit up and I’ll show you!” The Meat Clever could be a little ornery.
