Wasn’t there a Natty in 1942? Still impressive record and some great players on that list. They say he was one tough coach. Always will be a DGD!!!
Yes. 1942 national championship.
Arguably in the top 3 of all time greats @ UGA. A tough SOB but one helluva a football coach.
His greatest victory was over Furman Bisher and those hacks at the Atlanta Urinal-Constipation.
And I still say we have a legitimate claim to 1946. We were the only top 5 (10?) team with a perfect record, plus we played in the Sugar Bowl and won against UNC and Choo-Choo Charley Justice.
This site does a good job of laying out our case (along with the others).

And 1 half of the best(?) named athletic complex in college sports. Used to love telling people I had to go to Buttsmear.
Seems like this is the place to pass along the news that Bobby Poss, Athens Athletic Hall of Fame member, a longtime leader in the Touchdown Club of Athens, UGA football Letterman 1969-71, world class beer salesman, and someone who served his community with great spirit and humor passed today.
He was known throughout Northeast Georgia, and the Bulldog nation, for his irreverent humor, love of his family and the Dawgs. He was also well known for his sales slogan “If it ain’t Lite, it ain’t right.”
Guess I’ll have one in his honor tonight. He will be missed.
