ABC – Auburn, Burners, and Cart Girls

I wonder if Hugh Sleeze is getting digits while hitting the links, because he damn sure isn’t getting recruits. While Kirby’s mantra of ABC – always be ‘cruitin – Freeze seems to have a different approach.

Matt Stahl, who writes for AL.com, raised the issue in a June 24 story headlined: “Which SEC football coaches are playing the most golf in 2025?” Stahl noted that Freeze recently had posted to the USGA’s Golf Handicap Information Network (GHIN.com) a score of 78.

“Unfortunately for Freeze,” Stahl wrote, “his honorable scoring record came under fire on social media and message boards on Monday, as the Tigers’ recruiting struggled. A trio of blue-chip prospects decommitted from AU over the past two weeks, and fans were unhappy after realizing how much time the coach was spending on the course.”

Whatever keeps your hands busy in productive ways, amirite?

  2. Next barner hc hiring will have that amended into the contract, toooooo many rounds of golf are grounds for termination of said contract…current barner hc is gearing up for the new ‘Bought out coaches tour”…#AUBURN SUCKS!!

  3. There’s probably some nuance to this story … something the sports media doesn’t understand in the least. Is he playing at 8:00 am when every kid he’s recruiting is either asleep or at summer workouts? Is he playing on Sunday afternoon after official visitors leave campus?

    I think it’s funny the Auburn family is losing their mind over this story because I think it’s a big nothing burger.

    This is very different from Dopey/Goofy Dan not being out on the Handbags’ open date.

    Auburn is no recruit’s dream school (sorry, Tigers, that’s who you are). Money bags dropped used to be your equalizer for that, but you can’t outspend your rivals unless you convince Tim Cook that his Apple stock needs to buy them a natty.
