Setting the Edge: New OLB Coach In Town

Georgia has their outside linebackers coach.

Here’s all you need to know:

Under his guidance, Arkansas State’s defensive front was responsible for 39 sacks on the season. Tying for first place among the Sun Belt conference, their 3.0 sacks per game averages ranked No. 6 nationally. In one game alone, Knight’s defensive front accounted for a whopping nine sacks.

That is long overdue for us on the defensive side of the ball. Of course, if nothing changes, it must be Schumann’s fault, or something like that. I don’t truly know what it is, short of just not having dominant defensive linemen the past couple of years, but getting chaos created in the backfield again has got to be somewhere on the 2026 priority list.

Maybe this hire is evidence of that.

I’m glad to have this new DE coach. But the bend-but-don’t-break defensive approach doesn’t emphasize pressure on the QB. So I don’t expect much of a change.

Williams and Walker were picked in the first half of the 1st round less than a year ago. We have studs now – that would generate bidding wars if they entered the portal. We don’t lack for talent, particularly at DE/OLB.

My thoughts exactly. Kirby is so risk adverse and relies on the Jimmy & Joe’s; it frustrates me as a fan. Maybe this is a change for the better.
