Polling the Electorate

So, in my half humorous attempt to say we were going to be a better competitor to Glory, Glory, it looks like I might have set off some interest in possible merchandising. I spoke with Otis and we’re in the exploratory phase of teasing out some early ideas for “merch” as the current cool kids call it.

Based on some of the feedback from the original designs, I made a couple of edits and thought I’d run them out here:

I included “Behave You Scamps” based on a reader suggestion, and I kind of like it. Not sure I’m on the Latin for “In the Senator We Trust”. I could replace that with GTP Refugees or the full Get the Picture Refugees, or something else. I’m open to design options.

Also heard a lot about a pocketed t-shirt or something?

The spacing and all is a little bold, but that’s the general picture. Or was it a pocketed polo?

Anyway, I’m a hoodie guy, so here’s another idea.

I think I’d prefer the GTP REFUGEES be all caps and black…

ChatGPT is pretty neat. I’ll keep taking some requests and generating ideas for y’all to discuss on here this week. It don’t cost nothin’ to generate these and there’s not a hell of a lot to talk about the sports world right now outside the Olympics. Stay tuned.

Maybe we could also do some of those fancy tshirts like you used to buy at the bookstore that include a vibrantly colored picture or cartoon…like this:

Stay Tuned.

  1. I realize there are licensing issues with the preferred bulldog options and it is difficult to find a bulldog that doesn’t require paying out a lot of money for it, but is there a G that can be used that looks good that doesn’t requiring licensing for the cheat pocket? Maybe a block G that would work? Just a thought.

    • Agree. I personally don’t care for the faux roid bulldog. Reminds me of the modern nike abomination with the spiked collar. Would much more prefer to see one of the iconic images e.g. the standing bulldog or the old bulldog head with the cap or even the power G. Understand licensing may be an issue/PIA.

  2. I don’t know, what would be the one word we could put in white letters on a black shirt, like the COLLEGE one, the Senator wore. Creature Comforts does one for BEER.

    • I bought a “COLLEGE” shirt a few years ago. I’ll wear it to watch CFB without the Dawgs.

Of course, I did just by “Hatin’ has no bye week” to wear when I hate-watch our opponents.

  3. Love both hoodies. “Behave you Scamps” is perfect. For the love of Dawg; if you put the flag on a t-shirt, put it on the back.

  4. All looks good to me. I do like”Behave you scamps”. Pocket T would be great too! Appreciate all your energy and time. Don’t know what I’d do without Refugees. A lot of kindred spirit!

  5. Not a bad selection in the bunch. I’d proudly wear my refugee hoodie and shirt.

I’m partial to the Latin “ In the Senator we trust”. While I didn’t always agree with his musings they were always thoughtful and worth my time.

I love the old fashion game day shirt idea and design. Chef’s the Auburn sucks button.

Behave you scamps is a requirement. I’d like to see GTP REFUGEES in all caps red version. Of course as my wife says my fashion sense is so bad I’m always a trend setter.

    • I tried that. ChatGPT doesn’t work well with real images translating to AI. Could be copyright issues, could be something else. I’m working on it.

      • With bing images I found a work around where instead of “James Brown” you can use “Godfather of Soul” perhaps with Vince you could use “Ol Ball Coach UGA” or something like that.

  6. I have bad taste in fashion, so I’m not gonna offer up any ideas (but I prefer t-shirts to hoodies). What I am doing is pulling coins from under the couch to get ready to buy whatever you’re offering up. I’m out of the UGA footprint, so anything from this group that I wear will seem “edgy”.

  7. Ask 10 of us and you’ll get 11 opinions 🤣

You might be able to navigate the licensing issues if you partner with one of the downtown stores, Alumni Hall or maybe the UGA Foundation (the director is a fan and knew Bluto).

I’m ok with clean and simple designs. Kickstarter or something like that might help with ability to get your pre-order volume and cash upfront so you don’t get burned on inventory.

    • We have a reader with a licensing expert for a wife. He has offered to run our designs by her to ensure we aren’t stepping on anyone’s copyright. I’ll say up front, we’re not going to be able to use any copyrighted logos… Gs, Dawgs, etc. It’s going to have to be a caricature of the Dawg or whatever. We want to do this as economically possible, not looking to profit, just distribute to everyone at cost.

  8. Man, all these pretty much go hard. Love the first logo and the hoodie. You might consider throwing a “habemus” in there somewhere.

These seem like a great way to confuse most dawg fans and let the rest know you’re better than they are.

  9. I prefer the Latin and really, really found it a whole lot more fun with ‘Start drinking heavily.’ It’s a direct quote from the movie that the Senator chose his handle from and it’s a lot more indicative of our weekend and Gameday behavior as students. Animal House was released while I was in Athens. Attended quite a few toga parties and heeded the advice to start drinking heavily pretty much every weekend. I drank VO back then. Bought two bottles every Friday and they were usually gone by Sunday.

  10. Loved the originals, you can never say auburn sucks too many times. How about “Start drinking heavily” as the top banner and underscore “Nothing Finer in the Land”.
