TRO No You Didn’t

Mensah, meet Mensa.

Love how Miami takes the time to try to poach a quarterback – in conference, no less – but they might’ve picked the wrong institution to mess with. While others haven’t been quite so successful in stopping this (reminder of our own departed defensive journeyman we tried to sue) there’s always going to be a precedent. Washington successfully and publicly humbled their portal master until he came back…but one has to wonder how much command he would have of a team when forced to come back while teammates were publicly shaming him. Should be a fun spring.

Anyway, I can say with confidence a move to Miami is sheer money grabbing. Beck didn’t seem to develop and further upside while there and I also have to say their offensive strategy was nothing write home about, either. Mensah would simply be chasing a bag, and that’s kind of the purpose of NIL, so it’s funny to see the pearl-clutching when something like this happens.

Amateurism is officially dead, but’s it’s becoming clear that some of the advising of the new semi-pros is amateur hour. Lawyers, guns, and money…it’s getting wild out there folks.

  1. I’ve never pulled for Dook a day in my life, but in this case, I’ll make an exception. I hope they win this lawsuit and set a precedent that allows for some guardrails on this nonsense.

  2. Miami picked the wrong institution to try this with. A bunch of Duke Law attorneys probably had this contract nailed shut and to governed under North Carolina law. There’s probably a lead litigator who is an Iron Duke doing this pro bono.

  3. That sound of breaking glass are ex-professional athletes trying to unlock the door to “finish their education” and get paid…errr…play. And some school is going to let it happen, so for every Duke trying to tie-down players, others will be selling out. Oh well…Stafford may retire if he wins the Super Bowl again and still want to win a college championship. And there’s always Aaron Rodgers.

    • Just wait until somebody bundles this lawsuit with the Bedakio and Pavia lawsuits. Maybe we’ll see Stetson return for his 7th and 8th years of eligibility.
