Fun fact, Somto, in Nigerian, means “God is good” and Cyril translates to “Lord”.
After watching the replay, that was my thought as well…”Lord”. I might have said something with God in it, as well, but that’s another thing altogether.
Sadly, Somto was needed because Stagg looked more like a high school freshman than a college freshman, and Jeremiah Wilkinson was still clearly not 100% and finished (I think) with just 2 points after coming in to the game as the team’s leading scorer.
Hoop Dogs lost, but seems more self-inflicted and injury related than the usual (hopefully, anyway) conference play collapse that we’re accustomed to seeing Georgia Basketball take each season.
Fingers crossed, anyway.
We are good, but fragile. Cyril is critical. A decent game out of Wilkinson is crucial. This wasn’t our night in Gainesville. Florida looked pretty strong, but we can hang with them at full strength. We did in the first half, just couldn’t once we lost our big man. I’m still optimistic we’ll make the tourney.
This is a solid team and when healthy is tough to deal with it’s guard play and a post presence.
Cyril lost his head but seemed to check himself mid fore arm shiver which was too late. That changed the whole game losing him in the first half.
It was a bad “shiver” at that, if you are gonna’ “shiver”, the “shiver” recipient should be sitting on his/hers ass… GO DAWGS!!
The fact that we still hung with them for at least 20 more minutes of game time after that, even with Wilkinson’s bad game, gives me hope.
Also, did anyone else notice the Turd in the crowd who spent the entire game screaming “Mike White sucks!”. They really do enroll the smart ones down there in Gainesville, don’t they.
Listening to much of the game on the radio, it sounded like it was a lot more than one guy….
To that point, I was really not thrilled with taking Florida’s sloppy seconds, but must admit White has turned things around pretty quickly and looks to be able to sustain (relative) success in a way we have not seen since Tubby…..
It wasn’t limited to just “Mike White Sux”. I heard “Blue Cain Sux” and even “Kirby Smart Sux”. The dude had some pipes and must have been sitting right behind the TV announcers.
