Guthrie was the greatest offensive linebacker ever to wear the red and black.

With all the success of the UGA football “Long Snappuh”, next on the list is the secret weapon known only to a select few at UGA football, you guessed it, the “Offensive Linebacker”…GO DAWGS!!

I can’t recall the term “Offensive Linebacker”. I am old too.
Was that common?
I saw Vince Guthrie having to play cornerback in a bowl game once. Can’t remember the game.

It was strong safety after we moved from the split 60 with a rover to a more traditional 5-2/3-4. He was playing strong safety as Andre Rison was running past everyone in the 1988/9 Gator Bowl in Dooley’s last game.
I may be wrong about that, but at worst, he was playing what we would call the star today.

My first bowl game, being a freshman and in the redcoats experiencing cfb for the first time that season infected me for life, lol.

Hey, at least yall got to a bowl game. My fortunes as a redcoat were not so fortunate.

My conclusion is that the person Collegiate Collection hired to write the copy did not know much about football and thought that when Guthrie was an OLB his junior year it meant “Offensive Linebacker.”
The cheapest hire is not always the best hire.

There have been several misprints in this series for sure. One that really stood out to me was that Charlie Trippi “reserved” the field on his famous punt return.

Guess I need to add a disclaimer to these cards:
“The research on these cards was not done by me.” lol

No..no..if it’s caught in your trap, it’s yours. Now own up, Otis.
Sort of wild to think anybody on the defensive side for us would be one of Georgia’s Finest, lol
I remember the craziness of that game at the time and it probably ranks as a classic. In my mind I imagine Munson begging us to hold on in the finest way!
Go Dawgs!

I’ve been scarred by offensive linebacker play at times: bad gap or eye discipline, trying to arm tackle rather than wrapping up…
Man, I miss that 2021 defense.

There’s a good question:
Who has been our most “offensive” linebacker, in the sense that he stunk?

I’ll vote for Brandon Miller.
Our LBs have been offensive to some QBs.

Very good example. Auburn sucks.
