I’m Surprised They Didn’t Trade Up for a Long Snapper

Well. The Falcons finally did something seemingly right.

Color me shocked. Congrats to a DGD. Also, Mykel went earlier in the draft tonight to the 49ers.

Go raise hell, Dawgs. I might actually watch Falcons football again.

    • I read some “analysis” that worried he was a “tweener” not big enough to always play line, but too big to be a fast end. Sounded like something a GM floated to tank his draft stock so they could grab him.

  1. Poor Jalon. I finally gave up on the Falcons when they hired Bobby Petrino as coach back in ‘06 or whatever it was. My quality of life improved dramatically.

    • Yeah, (well compensated but) poor Jalon. From top-tier organization to bottom feeder.

  2. Not sure I should be happy for Jalon. It’s that feeling you get of impending doom. I certainly wish him the best.

  3. It only took 59 years.

Good for Jalon, but I was surprised Carolina didn’t snap him up given his Salisbury, NC ties. I spent the week in Charlotte on business, and a friend/colleague wanted him but didn’t think he would be available when they picked.

  4. I happened to flip over and watch this pick and was sitting there thinking, “the Falcons better take Jalon! They never take a highly rated Bulldog when available.” Then they do pick him and I’m like, “Damn! That sucks for Jalon. He is going to a bad organization.”

  5. Hope Jalon thrives with Atlanta. He has a chance to learn & grow as a player for 4 years, then leave & go somewhere to play for a championship.

  6. I think the Falcons returned to form later, when they traded next years first round pick to move up and get Pierce from Tennessee. The Rams will probably use that pick to get a QB to replace Stafford.

  7. I just saw a stat that Falcons have the fewest sacks of any NFL club over 10 and 20 year periods. Walker falling to 15 was a gift even Falcons couldn’t refuse. They gambled on the kid from Tennessee however.

  8. Last night somebody on the Twitter commented that he had experience playing in big games at the Benz. Well, yeah. But unlike the Falcons his games were for actual championships…

  9. I’m sure they will come to their senses and trade him today for multiple lower round draft picks. That would be consistent with the Falcons I have observed almost since their inception. For the most part, they have been the shining example of incompetence that others can only hope to ever achieve. You would almost have to believe that they are the NFL’s equivalent of The Washington Generals.
