A New Meaning to the Acronym “NCAA”

I have to say, I like it.

In case you’re wondering, WVU is upset because they were snubbed from the NCAA Tournament, while UNC was allowed in.

UNC had one whopping win over a Q1 team. When the SEC becomes basketball darlings over the ACC, I imagine cats and dogs living together is the next thing happening, Bill.

To make matters worse, after the news broke, West Virginia’s head basketball coach took his ball and left for Indiana.

What a world.

  1. Hate to see it going to the (legal) courts, but I can see how they got screwed. Of course, this had nothing to do with UNC’s athletic director being on the NCAA selection committee, or the $68k bonus he got for UNC being selected for the tournament.

  2. More political grandstanding about sports entertainment that’ll just wind up wasting taxpayer dollars. Just what the world needs more of.

Sure, WVU got screwed but that’s a feature of tournament selection, not a bug. It creates clicks … obviously including from disgruntled pols.

  3. If you wanna’ talk snubbed…UGA football 2023…these may harsh words for any and all past, current and future selection committees….Fuck those mutha’ Fuckers!!

  4. fsu says hold my (lawsuit) beer.
lawdy is everything to be litigated.

  5. I mean, be mad, but come on, they went 19-13 and just lost in round 1 of their tourney to a 14-20 team. Not sure that gets to “corruption” levels.

  6. So either a judge will be asked to evaluate tournament eligibility criteria (doubtful a judge would do that) or rule in favor of the selection committee’s right to pick whomever they want for whatever reason. Seems they should be able to as WVU is a voluntary member of the organization that can set its own rules. But if the judge gets frosty and dives into the weeds then this will be the final nail in the coffin for the NCAA who will be stripped of any authority to conduct its own affairs. I would think this case gets tossed out quickly but who knows?

    • A lawsuit by a member of a voluntary organization against that organization must be based upon a breach of a duty owed by the organization to the member.
The first issue I would address to a judge is, “what duty do you contend the NCAA breached?” The NCAA through its members set up a selection method. Does UWV claim the selection committee forgot to consider UWV?

So, if a couple gets married in West Virginia and they move to Georgia and get divorced, are they still brother and sister?
