Here’s a question that was going on the Twix yesterday.

It’s like Ole Miss fell off the map, ditto A&M. The resumes aren’t great for the Rebels Sharks Bears(?) or Aggies, but I don’t see Carolina’s being that stellar either. They lost the head to head with Alabama, beat A&M handily, and squeaked one out against Clemson…while losing to LSU (admittedly may have had the worst officiating call next to the DPI/OPI incident in Austin), Alabama, and getting spanked by Ole Miss at home.
Also, Joey Freshwater would like to have a word:

Of course you can follow the link and watch the hilarity that ensued, including Bret Bielema’s response:

So…what’s your opinion? Who should sneak in…or should any three loss team that’s not playing in a Championship game even get a look? How does a 3 loss SEC team look compared to Ohio State or Miami?
Have at it in the comments.
The exploding heads in Bama and Reb Countries will look like 4th of July fireworks if Illinois gets in over those two. I’m here for all of it.
Must also support Bert in this….
So we’ve got Texas part deux, then Tennessee part deux and there’s a possibility for an Alabama part deux. Is that right? That sounds like my pee-wee football schedule, but there were only four teams in that league.
I remain skeptical that we are in with a loss. And skeptical that Alabama sitting at 11 is out, especially if SMU gaks it up in Charlotte.
If we lose on Saturday, I’ll believe we’re in when I see our name on the bracket. If the committee (and ESPN) can find a way to screw us, they are going to do it.
If Clem wins, ACC gets two in. Bama out.
If there is any way, the committee will make sure Alabama gets in.
Alabama is getting in if Saban and Mickey Mouse have anything to do with it.
Disney wants their Texas/Alabama game they had the SEC schedule for Atlanta. Then, Vandy, Tennessee, and Oklahoma happened.
They can play in the 5/12 game then!
I like your thinking, 79!
If we beat Texas by 50, they’ll drop to #5 and host a home game. If they beat us by 1, we’ll be out. Sankey will threaten to think about gathering a blue ribbon committee to discuss possibly asking for a change to the format in 2034 to keep it from happening again.
But if Bama gets left out, especially if there are upsets in front of them, you can damn well guarantee that Sankey will come out swinging and the system will be different next year. Bama is still the golden child.
All of this insanity combined with a flustercluck of bizarro wins and losses, phantom targeting calls, OPI’s, illegal substitution rule uses (I’m looking at you Dan Lanning) and random breakouts of WWE matches, I am starting to think we should just go back to single bar helmets and BCS formulas.
Why does the SEC get more than 3 in? I guess there’s still some chaos that could happen, but it seems like it’s us and the two UTs in.
But as I said yesterday, the goal isn’t fairness, it’s eyeballs.
There is no reason…other than tv ratings for the talk shows…the playoff field should not already be set. They don’t have to guarantee a conference championship loser a spot, but the results do determine seeding and the first bye week. Allowing “another data point” is completely unfair to the whole process. Regular season is over, the conference championships have meaning, why make it unfair to specifically judge JUST the losers next week? I call b.s. on the whole thing.
The answer is no 3-loss team should have an opportunity to play for the NC. This whole oversized tournament concept is stupid and will only get worse when the inevitably expand it so more teams can “get a trophy” at the end of the season.
If this year’s parity is here to stay, or if it increases in coming years, then I might have to disagree with you. Before they expanded to 12 teams, the argument against doing so was that there are rarely more then 3 or 4 NC-worthy teams in any year. This year it seems like there are more than a dozen teams that could beat any other of those teams on any given day. Some of those are 3-loss teams.
Agreed but I still have this feeling that there’s gonna be some one-sided scores during this 12 team playoff (see: UGA/TCU -or- LSU/OK)
I keep hearing UGA is a lock. I have a hard time believing we’re in with a loss on Saturday.
I think that we’re in no matter the outcome on SAT – which, by the way, I expect us to win. No matter our level of Munsoning, we’re the big dick now and get the bamafit of the doubt.
If Saban was still at Bama, they would be a lock to get the nod amongst the 3-loss teams, but he’s not and I wonder if the committee takes the opportunity to put Bama in its place…
Nah, they’ll set up the Tejas/Bama 1st round game just like Mickey wanted…
There is a good chance we end up having to play Texas three times this year – two in the post season – which is flat out dumb. The conference championship games have zero meaning or worth at this point. Beating Texas gets us a bye but losing means no break and a likely trip to snow country somewhere. We got hosed as usual.
Agreed. And if bama backs its way into the CFP, it will be all the more BS
Most of the bracket predictions have us losing to Texas, but still hosting a play-off game in round 1. Clearly we need to win in Atlanta, and it will be interesting how many from Austin make the trip. Based on our brutal schedule, it does sound reasonable to rank us higher in the bracket, even with a loss. Just win baby!
