It’s a slow, slow time of season, so why not conjure up the voice and sound of Georgia football lore and times gone by, Dr. Grizzard.
Timeless.

Greatness! Thank you sir.
There will never be another like him. Thanks for the memory.
My mom grew up near Moreland, and her youngest brother was friends with Lewis. I about died laughing when someone asked one of my aunts if she had ever gone to see Lewis perform. She brashly retorted, “I’m not going to pay to hear him talk! I had to put up with all the things he and Jimmy (my uncle) did and said on the back of the bus!”
Heck, I thought they had to walk uphill to and from school. That bus bit was new to me!
I learned the hard way, back at the Senator’s place, that no one should blaspheme Saint Lewis’s name. His whole act, in print and in person, was hicksploitation, and the three times I met him in person left a very bad taste in my mouth. But by all means, y’all carry on. (And, yes, I’m a lot of fun at parties. I was asked that the first time.)
