White Smoke from the Chapel

Well, it’s finally official.

From fired on a tarmac to keeping the whole college football world in suspense for months, Jimmy Sexton Lane Kiffin is an evolution in coaching valuation that needs to be studied.

  1. I think the country’s obsession with this when fiasco is similar to it’s fascinating with serial killers and natural disasters. You just can’t look away no matter how much you want to. This is a culture nightmare waiting to blow up in Kiffin’s face.

  2. I believe he win nothing of consequence. Never had a defense in his coaching tenure. Always looking for greener pastures.

    • Hence, the move to alabamia in 4-5 years, to solidify the hc resume….the media narrative has spoken

  3. Kiffen: I’m divorcing my wife and taking the furniture for a NOLA stripper and she won’t give me a final BJ?! How cold can she be?

Wait until he sees what’s the stripper looks like in the morning.

    • No joke. I get taking the job, but I don’t understand the need to whine about Carter not letting him have his way. I haven’t disliked LSU that much previously, but I kind of hope this blows up in there face kind of like the Kelly hire.

      • What’s the other option? I’m abandoning the team of my own accord?

        The question I have is:

Didn’t ole miss have less to lose by giving in?

They may never be here again.

I get that its not an easy call, but my math says that you let him finish things out.

        • The other option? Just Leave out the paragraph beginning “I was hoping….” It’s completely unnecessary. We all know that he wants the big $$, and him trying to excuse himself and paint Kevin Carter as big meanie is ridiculously demeaning to himself and to Ole Miss. The decision by Ole Miss may or may not be the best thing at the end, but it’s their decision. He just needs to shut up besides announcing his decision and saying he will miss his players and wishing them well

          • He won’t miss some of them very long because he’s probably already got their names on the lockers in the LSU field house.

          • Yeah I should have said “….missing hos players and wishing them well. I’ll see you in a few.”

          • For lane:

Q: Did you want to coach your team in the playoffs?

            A: No comment.

            For the ad:

Q: Did Lane ask to coach om into the playoffs?

A: He abandoned his team. Next question.

It all makes sense to someone I suppose.

          • Yeah, that’s what happened. 🙄 Lane never voluntarily posted anything. Reporters made him do it.

        • There is no “playoff run”. No “backdoor championship” (h/t Rigger 92) opportunity. Aso Lane can take a hike, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

          • Om will have so many playoff opportunities is why no one ever stays there.

Throwing a childish fit is always the right thing to do.

        • I don’t let him coach unless he’s going to pour every bit of his effort until they lost into the job.

It worked between Saban and Kirby because there was mutual respect. It didn’t work with Kiffin because there wasn’t that respect.

I’m sure Carter didn’t want to monitor the “guard rails” for the next month knowing that Kiffin would likely do anything to push the boundaries. Go ahead and rip off the Band Aid knowing his donors and fans will give him grace over this.

I’ve seen very few Rebel outlets wanting Kiffin to stay.

          • I should have looked at the latest rankings before I posted, I figured since Alabama won Ole Miss was out of the playoffs. I am far from an Ole miss fan, but I agree with cutting Kiffen loose. I didn’t like Kelly but Kiffen is a whole different asshole and I hope the mercenary fucker loses every game he coaches at LSU. Apologies to my Cajun brethren, but you desperate bastard’s ought to know better. AI can give you tips on resume review, dumbasses.

  4. The “ can’t make a housewife out of hoe” shirts are already for sale in blue and red.

    • But you can shack up with one until someone with more bling than you comes a-calling.

  5. Everybody knows about Kiffin and his messy departures. But he may have crossed a red line with this move. He better hope things work out @ LSU because I think he’s now radioactive to AD’s and school Presidents from coast to coast. I doubt he’ll ever get another college offer, no matter how well he does. He’ll end up in pro ball sooner or later.

  6. The Ole Miss regime is at fault for letting get out of hand. They let Kiffin take control of the situation.
When it was apparent that he was a entertaining offers from LSU & Florida, they should have forced him to make a decision.

  7. I’m sure this all could have been avoided if Lane didn’t have such a big frigging ego. I’m thinking they could have worked out a path where he could have stayed and coached the playoffs but his vain ass couldn’t stop stroking his ego and the drama on social media. IMO they should have let him finish the job he built. Pretty selfish of the AD. It should have been up to the players, not a butt hurt AD.

    • I get both sides of whether to let him stay to coach the CFP or not. I feel bad for the players and Ole Miss fans though. Sucks to have your best season ever and it get blown up like this.

    • Hypothetical, what would you do if you were Josh Brooks and Kirby was taking the Alabama job at the same time the team was preparing for the playoff?

I do think this could have been worked out with him going to Florida. With it being Ole Miss’s 2nd most hated rival, it’s hard to blame the AD who has to answer to his donors and fans who are not on Kiffin’s side from what I can tell.

      YMMV.

      • I would let him leave and have someone else coach the team. Why keep him around if he doesn’t want to be there? Maybe if it was a pro job, but not another college job.

    • Your fart would have to travel through Tuscaloosa to get there…..
Hmmm…maybe I’ll fart in their direction too.

  8. When Bill Frieder left Michigan basketball for Arizona State the Wolverines hired Steve Fisher as coach. Frieder wanted to coach the team in the NCAA Tourney Schembechler said “”I don’t want someone from Arizona State coaching the Michigan team. A Michigan man is going to coach Michigan.” I hope Ole Miss followed suit.

  9. Damn you, Keith Carter! Why must you be so cruel to poor Lil Lane? He’s doing it for the kids, you monster! For the kids!

    • Lane really made Marty wait for it, didn’t he? Aw, now you’ve got me liking Lane again–just a little bit. Dammit, Otis.
