When Football Meets Foie Gras

Holy Steelers.

This isn’t a Playpen post, but given the civil unrest in France, the audacity of a NFL team to make light of it shows just how much they have a disregard for geopolitics.

Maybe it’s because they have this guy on their team to protect literally everyone:

This is Darnell Washington, he is literally ten feet tall, 700 pounds, and wears a rattlesnake as a condom. He also was an integral part in Georgia’s national championship runs.

Meanwhile, in international NFL news:

To be fair, Georgia almost killed him in 2017. But in all honesty, this is a terrible look and Hurts could probably never play another down and sue the NFL for compensation and win, easily, and that’s deserved.

Word is he was flown back in a specialized chamber to ensure he lived, but that’s not enough. Jalen will retire rich, but not because he won anything or played well, but because no one reallly cares about players in the pros.

And it shows.

  1. I don’t do the tweets, so you can correct me if I’m wrong, but that does not appear to be an NFL team making light of the civil unrest in France. Some fans of that team, perhaps, but not the team itself.

    • The Steelers posted a tweet of Paris burning and rioting going on. Tone deaf at best. One can hope they had this prepared before this weekend but even so, it should never have seen the light of day.

Oh, and Jalen Hurts is REALLY about to be paid.

        • I think you are confusing the front offices of the NFL teams in the state of Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh’s GM is Omar Khan who matriculated at Tulane.

The Philadelphia GM is Howie Roseman who graduated from Florida before law school at Fordham. Roseman was roomates with Univ of Washington HC Jedd Fisch.

      • The official Steelers account did that? Or anyone in any way connected to the team? Because the video I see on here is not from a Steelers account.

  2. From a news article about this:

“Former NFL player Michael Robinson suggested that Hurts was faking the blood clot to avoid playing for a losing team.”

What a douche bag, and that’s insulting to feminine care products.

To the NFL and the Eagles, there’s no way anyone should have cleared Hurts to play if he had a blood clot of any kind.

      • The original story I read said that Hurts did not tell the team he was injured for several days (until the day they *left* for London), that they checked him out when they arrived in London and discovered the clot in his leg, and that because it was small and in his leg, he was allowed to play. That last part, in particular, does not square with new reports that say he stayed awake all night before the game to reduce the risk from the blood clot; how anyone could stay awake all night and then go play a professional football game (clot or not) is beside me….

  3. Paris is not France… just like NYC is not USA.
Also I have encouraged all of my French Rugby mates to wear Falcons gear all week to “support” the Saints. They all live in Lille, Toulouse, and Normandy and hate Paris so they won’t be going to the game nor do they really give a shit.

  4. There is a common denominator between the NFL and college football. It’s overwhelming greed and complete lack of consideration for players and fans.

Not being political just with talk of oligarchs and kings does having an antitrust advantage have anything to do with it. Unchecked power seems to always end badly for those not in power. Maybe using this example providing a get out of jail card for those creating AI might not be a great idea either.

  5. Team Owner’s doctor about to lose his license if this is all true. Next up…quiet settlement offer, rejection, lawsuit filed, Goodall calls for internal investigation, revised settlement accepted, other owners sigh with relief and move on.

  6. I don’t think that AI hype video is directly from the organization. The Rooney family is perhaps the most politically savvy of all NFL owners with members of the family having been US ambassadors in the past.

As far as the NFL staging a game in Paris this weekend, the game will go off without a hitch. Paris Saint Germain is playing Barcelona tonight for UEFA Champions League match in the same stadium (which is about 5 miles north of central Paris.) If there are any issues tonight, then I can see concern.

As a point of reference, much of the unrest in Paris has been south of the Stade de France but north of Seine and Notre Dame Cathedral.

    • Went to Stade de France for Rugby 7s and Track & Field during the Olympics two years ago. Felt completely safe because there were about eight thousand gendarmes walking around at the time, but that neighborhood is weird. Not so sketchy you’d never want to go, but not the kind of place you’d choose to go if there’s not a sporting event happening.
