I’ll lead with this, Barves fans:
What. The. Hell.

Acuna hasn’t had the best of seasons, although he played what seems like literally every day of the year with the World Baseball Classic in play during the Spring Training period for players.
He’s a stellar athlete and he’s a great Brave. But his curious disappearance in productivity in the post-season is worrisome, especially with the Braves being on the brink of elimination. I will say that Walt Weiss did amazing work making something out of nothing, and by nothing I mean the Braves pitching staff. Chris Sale aside, the whole starting lineup imploded, yet the Braves clinched the Division and a Playoff spot nearly a week prior to the season ending. Not bad. Not bad at all.
For today’s Wondering…who’s the guy that most notoriously disappeared in the postseason, regardless of sport?
A few thoughts:
- Dan Marino
- Any Bills kicker, ever
- Karl Malone
- Alex Rodriguez
- Aaron Judge
- Injured Receivers Who Play Georgia
- The Falcons, In Perpetuity
- Dak Prescott, or the Cowboys, in General
- The US Men’s Soccer Team
- Georgia Basketball
- Ron Dayne
So what’s your thoughts? Have you seen anyone or anything like Acuna’s drop off in the playoffs? Discuss.
Our text group named Acuna ‘Glass Man’. He had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs last night. A hit most likely ties the game at 3-3. He grounded out to second. I immediately said to the group… Superstar my ass. Bout had it with that guy.
To be fair, last night no one wearing red could get a hit with RISP off Yamamoto last night.
I had a bad feeling going into that game for some reason. It seemed set up too well for the Braves with Sale on the bump and stealing a game in LA. The Braves don’t seem to play well when things are lined up like that. A “too good to be true” type of thing maybe.
Have to give the Dodgers credit. They had a good approach to Sale and got to him. I guess you can expect that from the best team money can buy with a bankruptcy tax advantage over the rest of the sport. Thanks MLB.
It’s 40 or 45 guys, but: How bout the Buffalo Bills
I was going to say anyone wearing a Falcons jersey. Playoff football for them is too infrequent to count.
The great thing about BB is he can go 4/5 with 6 RBI’s in his next outing and that’s all forgotten.
The difference in BB fringe player to hall of fame is so small. Hitting a BB is still the most difficult thing in sports.
Speeding up the game has for me saved it. It was becoming unbearably too slow.
Agree, aka, about the rules changes improving the game. The rules speeding up the game were the most important but outlawing the shift and making the bases bigger added to the game as well.
It feels as if Acuna is not very clutch for a star. What sent me over the edge last night was his 1st inning ABS challenge. No runners on, he was falling out of the box, had zero idea where the ball crossed, and still selfishly wasted 1 of 2 challenges. I am ok shopping an Acuna trade at this point.
Agree, but the challenge system SUCKS. Why shift the burden to the athletes. Let the automated system call it & be done.
The umpire unions would like a word with you in the alley Jim.
Haven’t watched baseball very much lately but I tuned into game 2 vs the dodgers and I couldn’t understand why the computer can’t radio the umpire whether it was a ball or a strike and then he calls it out.
Just seems a more logical and accurate system. If you’re relying on the computer anyway, then rely on it.
Acuna would be well-served to play more Ecksteinian or Erstadian … he could be grittier and try not “hot-dogging” like players of yore.
Kyle Shanahan
Greg Maddux
Clayton Kershaw
Greg Norman
Any Cowboys team not put together by Jimmy Johnson.
Marty Schottenheimer
Peyton Manning
Jordan Spieth – blowing the Masters unraveled his entire career.
Acuna is still a defensive superstar. I just wish he would figure out his hitting.
Greg Norman’s life and career can be summed up with his second shot on 18 in 1986.
Best golfer ever….when it didn’t matter.
Still holds the tournament record at Sawgrass with rounds of -9, -5, -5, -5…which is insane.
But in a major? CHOKE!!!
Comment below is slightly off topic. However, I wanted to highlight that Acuna is basically a ghost almost half of the entire season – not just the postseason.
This was/is Acuna’s 9th MLB Season…
He has played more than 120 games in a season TWO SEASONS. Why a random 120? That’s roughly 75% of a season.
Is he ultra-talented (when “right”)? Absolutely. But as said above, he is made of glass and for me isn’t worth the amount of money he’s paid if he isn’t going to be on the field.
Nine MLB seasons (1,458 games not counting postseason) and he has played in 924. That is less than 64%.
For comparison, Matt Olson just played in his 948th consecutive game.
If you want an example of the all-time chokingest team, stick with the Braves. Bobby Cox only landed 1 World Series championship with all those superstars! Every post-season was a gut punch.
This^^^.
James Harden approves of your list
He needs to order two shots of Lemke and see how that flies.
Braves, Bills, Falcons, Cowboys, Texas,Tennessee, gnats, gators, UM all full of chokers at one time or another. Can we get bama on this list going forward?
My guy, is the entire cfp committee in 2023, voting to keep UGA football out of the top 4 participants for that trophy….Fuck ’em, yesterday, tomorrow and foevah!!… GO DAWGS!!
