Updates on Site Experience

Afternoon, Refugees. After the “great reset” it appears that some functionality has returned that makes posting a little easier, which is a good thing. We, like some of you expressed, have a touch of PTSD when it comes to advancing with more adjustments, kind of like hoping that can of transmission magic you just poured into your RAM is going to keep it running and avoid a catastrophe. Thanks for your understanding in that regard.

As such, the feedback I’ve seen seems to be summarized as follows:

  • Font size on the mobile reader is quite small.
  • Commenters would like to see who “liked” a comment or post by hovering over the like counter, a feature that was present on previous iterations and at GTP.
  • Some are still having to go through Jetpack or are continuing to have log in requests each time. After some additional use, this seems to dissipate. From the blogger side, some of the functions, like Twitter embeds, improved after a few days, so maybe the gremlins are starting to slowly exit the system.
  • Avatars not popping up when logged in.
  • Some posting as anonymous – this is my doing, to be honest, as I removed any regulators for commenting to see how easy this would be. This is a quick switch flip, where users would have to registered again. That might also take care of the last bullet point, regarding avatars, once commenters have to be logged in or use credentials to comment. This is actually preferred, as it inhibits random people from entering the comments and shit-posting to rile other people up. Some of us do a fine job of that even when registered, but we don’t want to turn the site into a daily mental wellness challenge, either. Trust when I say as a person who scans the socials for content, the nonsense out there, both sports and otherwise, is a blend of lunatic fringe and psychopathy. Makes me miss the days of reading the Red and Black in the O-House cafe, to say the least.

As I’ve said before, thanks for hanging in there with us. It’s the slow season, but spring practice is about a week away, so should be some fun times ahead.

If you’re experiencing additional concerns, let us know in the comments, or if you have suggestions for content or adjustments, I’m always open to feedback. If you can’t comment, you can email us or me directly at jpmcdonough1974@gmail.com.

  1. Keep up the good fight! I was disheartened that I could not tell y’all in the comments how appreciative I was the entire time y’all were keeping this thing going and not giving up. I am confident there were tons of others just like me hoping y’all wouldn’t give up, but feeling helpless not being able to express our gratitude that you didn’t give up. After the passing of the Senator and Ranger, it was comforting to see the GTPRefugees blog continue chugging along.

Happy to finally be able to express these things in comments (and happy y’all still haven’t given up)! Keep up the great work fellas. You and the blog are greatly appreciated!

  2. So far, this has been the best update yet!! I give it my full endoresment.

  3. “…daily mental wellness challenge…”

Amen. I get enough of that without coming here. Thanks for all you do.

    • “Makes me miss the days of reading the Red and Black in the O-House cafe, to say the least”……As history repeats itself, just cause somebody said “out with the old, in with the new” doesn’t mean improvement, it generally means someone fucked upped a great idea/arraignment/setting that wasn’t better, just mo sparkly and mo shiny….GO DAWGS!!

  4. Just appreciate you guys putting in the work to keep us idiots together in our own little asylum.

  5. I can now comment without logging in, as I did once last week on a “test” post. The comment does now show immediately as it once did on GTP or jetpack. I have to go back to main blog & then back in individual post to see my comment. I still cannot “like” a comment without logging in. I am also seeing “anonymous” instead of my handle, which you’ve addressed up top. This is from my iPhone on explorer, not jetpack. Thanks y’all.

  7. sorry i didn’t read for comprehension…disregard Anon comment

  8. Thank you for all of your efforts keeping us together.

Nice to be able to post again even if I’m required to login every time. For me problems started the day of the banner change. Until that day everything was same as the original GTP site.

  9. Thanks for all the work you’ve put in trying to improve the user experience. I know nothing’s ever as easy to configure and maintain as it should be.

  10. You guys are doing a great job. I would like to see who likes whose comments, speaking for myself of course.
