The weekend that was at Message Board Geniuses – week 4

I really am a quarterback guru.

I didn’t get a chance to watch much from yesterday due to some weekend travel, but I did keep one eye on what our favorite geniuses were saying on Saturday.

Let’s get to the our trip around the message board universe. This week’s travels start in Greater Opelika.

Auburn loses at home to Arkansas in ugly fashion, and it’s all related to quarterback play. I anticipated somewhat of a year 2 bounce for Freeze, and they look horrible. How much NIL money is it going to take to keep Cam Coleman in Auburn? -3 turnover margin is no way to go through a football game, Hugh. Arkansas just stunk less than Auburn.

Let’s move on up to Ann Arbor to check in on the Boy Wonder.

USC loses to Michigan in the most Lincoln Riley way possible – an 89-yard drive in the last 4:00 where the Trojans defense looked like Oklahoma trying to tackle Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. The tackling on the long run by Mullings was atrocious. To the former Georgia defensive lineman who is now in LA, I really hope you’re enjoying your apartment instead of getting developed for the NFL draft.

On to a double feature from my old neck of the woods …

UNC and NC State gave up a combined 129 points to James Madison(!) and Clemson, respectively. If either of them is trying to audition for a slot at the SEC/B1G table, this past weekend probably made a lot of schools say, “Sure, bring them in for a sure homecoming win.” I hope the Wolfpack genius who commented “Jesus wept” wasn’t standing outside in a thunderstorm while typing that.

Our open date trip ends up in what’s become a familiar spot for this feature … Baton Rouge.

LSU eventually pulled away from UCLA and won somewhat easily, but the reason they are here isn’t really about the game. It’s about the fan support yesterday on the Bayou. Death Valley looked like a ghost town for a 3:30 (2:30 central) kick on ABC. Is that because the Corn Dogs don’t show up for any start time that isn’t at night or is it the continuing saga of the Leprechaun’s relationship with the LSU fan base? I was amazed at how empty the place looked for a large portion of a game against a Power 4 opponent. If I were a potential recruit, I would be alarmed.

That’s what I saw this weekend … it’s time to get our minds right for the showdown in Tuscaloosa.

I've been a Dawg my entire life. UGA was always my dream school where I received 2 Terry College degrees and met my DGD wife. I've been a season ticket holder for over 30 years and love the in-stadium experience over anything from Section HD. My first game in Sanford Stadium was the 1981 Auburn game where we clinched the SEC championship. The best game I've attended in person was the Midnight Miss against Ohio State (nite, nite!). The best home games I've attended were the 1984 Clemson game (the Butler did it) and the 2013 LSU game (that 4th down is still the loudest single moment I've experienced between the hedges). The game I love to win is against the Handbags (FTMF), and the game I hate to lose is the NATS (Tuck Fech).

  1. Funny as hell to me that U$C and L$U are both ready to run off their ‘All Star’ coaches. Not the ‘Golden Boy’ and the Carpetbagger….🤣

    • It’s hot and humid everywhere in the southeast in September. I can understand that crowd for a cupcake. I don’t get it for a Power 4 OOC opponent. If you look at a lot of the comments, people in Louisiana think night games in Death Valley are just their right.

      • Yeah, not a good look for LSU. Ol BK better start brushing up on his dancing skills.

I’m surprised LSU pulled that out. They looked like crap first half. Maybe they were hot.
