Good morning, scamps. Just some food for discussion for our delighted Dawg hearts this morning:
- How big did Thorson come up on his tackle to save a touchdown last night, and should he get some playing time at linebacker? I keed, I keed…kind of.
- Freeling at left tackle. Was this the long overdue fix to our offensive woes?
- Tight ends – 10 catches, 130 yards, two touchdowns. Hello Yurosek. They finally combined for a Brock Bowers game.
- Beck – 380 total yards and 3 touchdowns. The switch flipped after he road-graded a Tennessee defender on a run and he came out of his Carson Coma. After last night, does anybody question his commitment to Georgia?

Beck finally showed some fire last night. He looked to me like he turned into a leader and his post game interview there on the field made me proud of him. Also really liked the way Kirby threw shade towards the committee when he said he didn’t understand what they were looking for. Basically called them clueless.

We’ve finished our conference schedule. It appears impossible for more than one team to finish with only one loss, and it’s possible that none will.
I’m thinking about tie breakers for the SECCG. And I have no idea what I’m looking at, except to say that losing to Alabama and Ole Miss hurt our chances more than somebody losing to Vanderbilt or South Carolina. Just seat of the pants, even if we win out we’ll be using the week of December 7 to let our wounded recover.
On the other hand, losing to good teams is supposed to help our playoff chances, right? Right?
I’ll tune out the SECCG quickly if it’s Alabama and Texas.
Should Tejas make it to the SECCG and somehow win, that bunch of arrogant self indulged overinflated pricks will be more insufferable than they are already. They would have sone so by beating perhaps the weakest SEC schedule in decades. That said, I don’t think they can beat the Peoples Temple Cult of College Station at night. A&M has been waiting on that game for a while. I will guess Vegas sets the line at A&M-3.5 and the Ags will be playing for their lives, at night in front of 110k drunk cult members.

One more tough game, loser WILL be hosed by playoff committee, less time to heal up.
Does anyone really care that we weren’t the SEC champs in 2021? I know I don’t. I’m sure Bama feels the same with all the NCs they’ve won while not being SEC champs.
I didn’t read number 2 before I posted on the previous thread. Freeling was the answer last night and hopefully the line plays that way going forward.
Thorsen made a great play and then the defense stood tall in sudden change.
It sounds like Greene has been fighting some injuries, but Freeling looked good.

Very weak. That vol’s momentum is what took him away. AS barely touched him. Calls like happen both ways.
I’m pretty sure it takes more than a couple of marginal calls (and replay proved they got them correct) to result in an ass whipping of that level. That would be like us complaining that the officiating cost us the game in Oxford. You don’t get outgained by 134 yards due to a couple of calls (that I reiterate replay showed they got right).
Yeah, everyone in the press is talking about a close game. After spotting them 10, we beat them 31-7. Pretty much same as last year.
We need to heal up, realize that Tech is coming to try and ruin everything, get a home game in mid-December and see if we can’t play some good football when it matters most.
That game last night is everything we hope Kirby’s team can be. Smart, tough, 60 minutes of hell football.

UGA football 2024 is whut you see/experience/feel, it’s 60 minutes, not “oh, that quarter sucked, but the rest was good for me”… does CKS have those leaders in the locker room this year, we’ve got # 69, who may have been drafted last season, were sitting around the Tate Center and said to #15 plus others, let’s bring another trophy to the “Classic City”….oops, surgical procedure changed that thought, ya got #15, who just might be that fragile mind set and got backed up with ALL the Bullshit print media and such can throw at the wall, (given his productivity from 2023, I can see that)…reality is who UGA football is in 2024, peaks and some serious fucking valleys, even the # 4077th couldn’t help Dr. Ron Courson some days…do love me some CKS when a mic gets stuck in his face during and AFTER a game finish…besides the “W” last night, enjoyed the post game interviews and thoughts, with the Red Coats doing time in the background…would be remised to not mention the on-field reporters plus the fuck wad announcers with all their hand talking and body expressions….Soupy Sales and White Fang could do better….GO DAWGS!!
They look like a different team when they don’t look scared on the lines of scrimmage. The offensive line played well last night. Not great in the run game but good enough when we had to have it and Beck’s protection was really good. Searles must read this blog and got job scared. Lol. The long touchdown run from Tennessee was an alignment bust or “bad fit”. It happens. Julian Humphrey being replaced by Daniel Harris and Freelingreplacing Earnest Green were good moves. Nitro Tuggle needs more playing time.
For the HAB (humans against Bobo). it’s amazing how much better the OC looks when the offensive line blocks.
As for Thorson’s tackle, good on him, but why did he have to do it? Why did our coverage guy not break down and just go barreling down there past the guy? I said to my wife, “I do t understand how we can be that badly coached on special teams.” They’ve been doing that a lot lately too.
Mike, I played rush end for my Fraternity in College and was on both punt & kickoff coverage teams. Had a roommate named Kevin who was usually beside me going down in coverage. He was a little faster than me, but ALWAYS ran past the returner. I would slow down and usually made the stop if he came my way. Never could understand why he couldn’t figure that out. Any time I see a guy do that on TV now I always say, “There goes that dumbass Kevin.” 🤯
That’s funny. I mean that’s really basic stuff for our guys to be screwing up. It seems like the sort of thing that would drive Kirby nuts but it keeps happening.
Mike, I’ve got another story about ‘Kevin’ you will like. He always told funny stories about some guys in their hunt/fish club back in his hometown of Pembroke, over near Savannah. Went home with him one weekend to meet those guys. Got there and one of the first things I saw was a sign on the wall that said:

They run past him so if the ball is behind the return man they can try to down it before it becomes a touchback. They usually don’t know where the ball is and don’t trust the returner to actually get under the ball…he may decoy them away from the ball hoping for a touchback instead of the ball being downed near the goal line. (I think).
Thorsen wanted to make that tackle without pads and holding a can of Fosters. American football is too easy compared to rugby.

One of the things you don’t get a good look at on Spycast is special teams plays. The drone pulls back out of the way.
I been saying that we need to put him on the field, fullback, running back, or line back, doesn’t matter to me. Australian rules football has a lot to do with how he is on the field.

Anybody know WTF Raylen was doing when he blitzed and decided to take a detour through the RT on his way to Nico? Should’ve been a sack and ended up a longish completion. Baffling.

I wondered the same thing. Maybe he was supposed to hit the tackle so the other guy could get to the qb, but it was really late.
I couldn’t figure that out either. I mean he went straight for him like he’s been coached to do that. Really odd play.
I think Bobo’s first call of the night, Beck went deep, scared Tenn. they were looking for the wide screens. Ga. had one RB and we had showed bad OL play. The DC for Tenn. was 100% wrong. Beck did not complete the pass, but he got their attention. It would be very difficult to criticize Bobo for anything that happened in this game. Our OC was aggressive the whole game. I am proud of the guy.

UGA football OC dissects a lot of film study, some times analysts perform that duty, last night’s play calling seemed as though Coach Bobo studied big urunge kuntry football situational tendencies and called plays accordingly, throw a little hurry up in there and the oppositions answers were few and far between…#CRAYONSRULE!!

The disappointment in Fowler and Herbstriet’s voices was unmistakable. They thought this was Bobby Hill’s big moment and they were ready to crown them the new darling. They thought they were going to be there when the Georgia moment was over. Look this still is not a championship team. But Tennessee isn’t either and as long as Kirby is at Georgia we ain’t gonna be irrelevant and nowhere close. Kirby just knows how to stop Tennessee’s offense. Bobby Hill has never done well against Georgia’s defense. You could see it on his fat face in the temper tantrums he was throwing on the sideline. He knew Kirby had his number again. I realize Tennessee’s quarterback’s last name is difficult to pronounce but Herbstriet and Fowler calling him by his first name liek they’re drinking buddies just added an extra layer of obnoxiousness to it.
To hear the Tennessee fans, you would think Chris and Kirk were having a Georgia love fest. They got all upset because they reported the receivers were bitching about being cold when their heated seats broke down.
Two other things, sticking with the same five and not having a turnstile at left tackle made all the difference. And I hope we get to play Joey Freshwater and his best defense money can buy again.
Who told the stadium announcer that yelling 3rd down like that was a good idea? Good grief he is annoying as hell. Worse than listening to one of those Mexican soccer guys.
Second. I was hoping on the long 3rd quarter drive the fucker would lose his voice.
He does that every game and it gets the crowd louder. They do it at other stadiums too.
How many wide receiver screens did we run last night? I only remember two.
There were lots of pint-sized RB into the 2 and 3 holes for 2 yards, tho. That’s about the only bitch I could come up with last night. I also know doodly-shit about football so take that with for what it’s worth.
Not sure I would call Frazier (19 carries 210 lbs) and Bowens (5 carries 225 lbs) pint size. I think they would be offended. The only other carries were 1 by Bell and 3 by Beck. I’m not sure if Walker, Gurley, or Chubb could have made much more with the lack of push they were getting.
No complaints about the pass protection though.
I don’t know shit about football other than I’ve watched a lot of it for the past 60 years. But our defense just confuses me. They don’t seem to pass the eye test, giving up chunk plays and playing soft coverage, but then the game is over and they basically did their job. Glad to see the offense break it only. That’s the longest sustained stretch of good play they’ve had this year. Let’s keep it going.
Oh, and we need to be 100% ready for the nerds. They will be a tough out with King running back there. They would love nothing more than to ruin the playoff hopes.
