Spring has sprung

I wanted to take a few minutes and words to revisit some of the items I was looking for during spring practice. Let’s get to it:

The offensive line

Many of the whispers associated with the team has been focused on the play of the offensive line. At this point, it appears this unit is well on their way to being a group that is going to knock people back and keep Carson Beck’s uniform clean. While we aren’t really going to know who takes Van Pran-Granger’s leadership role, this group seems to be making the types of strides we expect from spring practice. Jared Wilson appears to be taking on the role at center. While I may not watch G-Day live, I’m going to be watching the middle of the line to see how he plays on Saturday

Maybe, just maybe, this group will finally be recognized by this outfit:

The defensive line

This is the classic zero-sum game that is spring practice. Because the offensive line has received such praise from practice whispers, that means everyone in Dawg Nation should be jumping off your nearest ledge because the defensive line must have issues. While that may be true, as a “glass half full” kind of guy, that makes me think this defensive line/front 7 may face their most effective group in practice all season long, and the games may be a whole lot easier than practice. As the season gets closer and the Munson in me starts to growl, I reserve the right to pass judgment on this group until Labor Day weekend because G-Day isn’t a time when the coaches decide to do a lot of running.

The freshman DBs

Terrence Edwards has referred to Ellis Robinson’s play this spring as “Champ Bailey-ish.” That’s high praise right there. He also referred to K.J. Bolden as “confident” and that he looked like he belongs even though sometimes he made mistakes. These 2 guys are clearly going to push to get meaningful playing time with Robinson as a guy who could start at some point in the 2024 season especially if a couple of guys decide to hit the portal after spring practice.

Nothing that has been said or written at this point has changed my point of view of what I’ll be looking for on Saturday (although I’ll be more focused on what’s happening about 94 miles east of Athens instead).

Comment with your spring practice thoughts so far especially if you have some different perspectives across the team below.

About eethomaswfnc

I've been a Dawg my entire life. UGA was always my dream school where I received 2 Terry College degrees and met my DGD wife. I've been a season ticket holder for over 30 years and love the in-stadium experience over anything from Section HD. My first game in Sanford Stadium was the 1981 Auburn game where we clinched the SEC championship. The best game I've attended in person was the Midnight Miss against Ohio State (nite, nite!). The best home games I've attended were the 1984 Clemson game (the Butler did it) and the 2013 LSU game (that 4th down is still the loudest single moment I've experienced between the hedges). The game I love to win is against the Handbags (FTMF), and the game I hate to lose is the NATS (Tuck Fech).
