Optics Gone Wild

First, look at what happens with unfettered field storming. You’ve got fans chasing and taunting Georgia players…the optics of both taunting as well as encouraging a deserved face-punching shows it’s less about celebrating and more about some form of social media clout.

Also, additional odd optics on the aftermath:

And do I sense that the portal is opening for some of our current roster?

When the going gets tough…I’m just as pissed as anyone that we lost, but there’s too many issues with this current roster to count. The moment I lost it was the screen pass to Frazier late in the game where Beck literally hesitated like he was going downfield, just to turn and swing it to Frazier when everyone and their brother knew it was coming.

I believe Kirby is always on the mother, but I’m worried he can’t get on it with three games remaining. This team was surprisingly absent yesterday, in a way I haven’t seen since 2016.

What’re your thoughts? What has to be done and what’s our realistic finish to the 2024 season?

  1. Lets just hope that Kirby is playing 3 dimensional chess here… he showed on the first 2 drives we were the dominant team, and then took the foot of the gas. He knows 2 losses allows us to skip SEC championship game. Big wins vs UTenn and Tech allow us to be the 5th seed in play-offs at home vs weak 12 seed. By not being the SEC champion, we get to play quarterfinals in Atlanta. (at least we can dream this is true?)

    • Man he didn’t take his foot off the gas. We got our ass kicked. It is what it is.

  2. Not at the point where I’ll scream fire Bobo but I can say I’m damn tired of seeing plays that take forever to develop like delayed draws and screen plays. Especially compared to other college offenses, our offense runs like it is in slow motion. Saw a lot of low effort plays on both sides of the ball with the linemen as well. I turned the TV off when I saw Beck laughing during the beatdown. Would love to hear some rumblings that Gunner is getting more reps at practices this week.

    • We may not need to fire Bobo but we definitely need to put someone else in charge of play calling.

      • Its not play calling, its the oversight of the entire offense. Recruiting, practice, reps, corrections, play calling, tendencies….just a lack of commitment to excellence in every aspect of the game on O.

  3. Back in 2020, someone used to break down film and show we called players open and bad choices were made. Now, its like we are a bunch of keystone cops on offense.

  4. Which Robinson’s Dad is that? The one who hasn’t seen the field all year due to a toe injury or the one who was out all last year and hasn’t looked good since coming back? The SEC is going to have to get serious about this field storming shit before a player or fan gets killed; like “your forfeit your win” serious. Not even kidding. Bobo finally ran out of crayons yesterday. We all knew it was coming. As long as he is coaching the offense and calling plays this team isn’t going very far.

  5. I think there is a good chance we win out the rest of the season. I think it is an iffy proposition for us to get into the playoffs. I think Kirby will be then make changes to his staff.

    • Whatever the he’ll that was we watched yesterday doesn’t deserve to be in the playoffs. Even if we somehow win out. Let’s not turn into Bammers and insist that we belong because of who we are. The truth is Kiffin exposed us. I can’t speculate anymore on the reasons why we played so poorly. It’s not as simple as Bobos’s crayons or Beck’s Lambo. I’m too frustrated to keep guessing.

      • I agree — I don’t get why the defense is immune to scrutiny. Our defense has given up more than 7 yards a play on three occasions this season. Bama (L), MSU (W) and OleMiss (L). You have to go back to 2020 to find a time where we gave up more that 7 yards a play in the regular season. (Bama and the Turds both had more than 7 yards a play)

        • We absolutely must have new coordinators on both sides of the ball next year. We cannot fix this with tweaking. Wholesale change is necessary. If Kirby doesn’t clean house I believe it will take this team several years to rebuild.

    • What makes you think there is a good possibility we win out? That’s a serious question. I’d like to embrace that optimism. After what I saw last night I think there’s a good possibility we get blown out by Tennessee and lose to Tech.

      • Lane built Ole Miss to beat UGA. Heupel built Tennessee to beat Bama. Ole Miss played their most complete game of the season on offense and defense. We played like we did all year long. I don’t think Tennessee will play their most complete game in Athens and there is a question about Nico’s injury status.

  6. To start with, Ole Miss doesn’t win games like this really ever, it was evident in the way the fans were acting during the game. After the Nate Frazier fumble the camera went to some kid who had this look of complete and utter disbelief on his face that Ole Miss was likely going to win. So I get why they act like they havent been there before because they really haven’t. But I want to echo something Dean Legge talked about after the game, let’s stop with this image of Ole Miss that they’re fans are all rich and hoighty toighty and full of gentility and the grove and all this. They act a lot more like South Carolina fans than any of that other stuff. Apparently some idiot got in CJ Allan and Malaki Starks’ faces after the game. This is what comes of growing up in the social media age where you can act like the worst version of yourself with no consequences. It’s why some idiot decided to slap Mike Tyson in the back of the head on a plane and then couldnt believe what happened afterwards. Nuff said about those idiots.

Look we all better confront the fact that this team just isn’t all that good. They’ve had moments this season but to me it was obvious way before now that this ain’t a championship team. I’m somewhat at a loss as to why they look the way they do but they’ve shown me who and what they are and I believe them. It ain’t getting fixed this season. It’s up to Kirby to figure out what’s wrong and how to fix it. And no it’s not as simple as just Bobo no matter how bad you want it to be that.

As for Roderick Robinson and his daddy. All I’ve got is if you had rather play for Lane Kiffin and he impresses you, I think that’s exactly where you need to go. Honestly I don’t know that losing Robinson is all that much of a big deal as he seems to be a crystal chandelier who will always be hurt. I’m not trying to crap on a kid but it seems like he’s just one of those guys and his daddy seems like he might be a problem and more suited for a guy like Lane Kiffin anyway.

  7. I guess Kirby didn’t learn anything from having Chaney and Coley as OCs, and decided another dinosaur like CMB was the way to go. Was Faulkner even given a shot at the OC job?

Gimmie a break about CMB being some kind of OC guru. Under CMR we were annual underachievers. His post-CMR history is a series of failures at CSU, SCU and Aubie.

    • I was hopeful the CMB had actually learned something from Monken and became more creative. I guess nature won out over nurture in the end.

    • Faulkner was already gone to Tech before Monken left. I think Bobo did fine last year.
      Another lazy comment.

    • Yep. Couldn’t agree more (though the stats, which we all know are for losers, suggest that several of Bobo’s offenses during Richt’s tenure were very good). Sadly, Monken was the exception to the rule that Kirby will hire a retread instead of an innovator. Contrast to Lanning’s OC, Will Stein. This, I suspect, is what keeps us from putting a Milroe or Dillon Gabriel behind center. At his very best, Beck is dollar-store Joe Flacco.

  8. There is only one appropriate procedure for field storming. If fans are jumping onto the sidelines prior to the end of the game the officials must call time, send both teams to their locker rooms and stadium security restore order. After the game do whatever but the players and coaches need to be protected much better. And for big games, use the new tv money to beef up sideline security. Last night was a shit show.

  9. My take is that we hit a limit on errors and mistakes and it finally added up to a loss of confidence.

We’ve been resilient and surviving and we just shot ourselves in the foot too many times to get off the mat.

I don’t think you can create toughness and discipline in mid to late season, but we need it. Maybe desperation will help with focus.

  10. The ‘leaders hurt’ tweet is off target. Tim Tebow was an overwrought baby in college.

    • While I agree about Tebow being overwrought, he also was pissed off enough at losses to address the team in no uncertain terms that this shit is going to stop. I really can’t see Beck saying anything like that or caring enough to do it. I may be wrong, but that was a BAD look last night. We had a gathering of about 12 people & several were pissed at his level of DGAS when this was shown.

    • Agree. That guy played tot he cameras so much I can’t believe he has t entered politics.

    • Tim Tebow broke Herscel Walker’s touchdown record by running basically untouched to score on us of all teams. He was a Hell of a college ball player. I know he played for for our hated rival, but I for one would have been damn proud to have him on our team.

      • Pardon me arguing. I didn’t play but I know coaches want enthusiastic inspiring types. But there is such a thing as too gung ho. Men cry at births, funerals, and weddings. Crying because you lose a game isn’t a good look.

        • You are 100% correct on that. Crying was a bad look in the moment. But it was a snapshot in a long movie. That kid was a baller.

  11. I have noticed that Kirby has not talked much, or not at all about “ELITE” this year. It’s because he knows we are not even close to being elite.
And, I can’t at this point and time of the year understand why we have not given other WR’s a chance playing (Nitro perhaps). It ain’t working all that good for what we have out there now.

  12. It seems like people are making too much out of that shot of Beck. Just my opinion.

    • 100% agree it’s impossible to infer Beck’s commitment to winning & competitiveness from one shot. Still, it was a very bad look at the time. Either way,. I really wish we had some players on the team that would have walked by & asked what the hell he was smiling about. This team just doesn’t seem to have the competitors that Kirby’s other teams have had, and I mean all of them going back to 2017. Your team just got their pants pulled down on TV in a crucial game. You’d think he could wait till the locker room to yuck it up. I used to get more pissed than this at losing middle school football & basketball games! Got over it 5 minutes after it was over but never till the clock ran out. One of the reasons Stetson became Stetson is because he hated to lose more than he was afraid to fail. That’s a rare trait, but absolutely crucial to win championships. Don’t know if Beck is afraid to fail,, but it appears he doesn’t hate to lose. I think about his pick 6 against UAB a couple years ago when he just stood & watched the guy score. He seems to have come a long way since then, but maybe championship level competitiveness is just not in his nature. Okay, I got it out of me. 😁

      • Men. I just think nobody knows what’s in somebody’s head. I agree it looks bad but social media etc makes it look like way more than it is. There’s no way to know how he is feeling and I know for a fact that nobody can know how competitive he is or how competitive the rest of the team is. Maybe that’s it. Maybe they have two rings in their time at Georgia and they’re fat and happy. That’s human nature so it wouldn’t surprise me but a pic of him smiling really doesnt mean anything. Is that Bell next to him? Bell might have just farted and said something hilarious about it for all we know. Now people can say, “So what? Even if that is what happened they shouldnt be joking!” Maybe it was the sort of thing that broke the tension for a second and gave them something to laugh at a time when they really needed it. That happens in situations a lot more serious than losing a football game. I’m not sure what ails this team but I don’t think it’s getting fixed during this season. But in the words of the great Ranger Russ, “Kirby has earned the right to tell everybody to shut the fuck up and eat crackers.” I agree and believe Kirby will get it straightened out. There’s just not much he can do at the moment.

        • Absolutely agree with this also. We have no way of knowing who is competitive, who’s fat & happy or anything else. Hope they figure it out & finish the season strong whether they win or not. I’d like to see some folks step up & make plays & change the feeling around the season. Frankly wouldn’t be shocked to see a TX type effort Saturday. Also wouldn’t be shocked to see a poor, I can’t say effort because it feels like they’re laying out effort, performance. I’m a bit flummoxed by the whole season.
