One would think that the thriller that was the COFH, 8-overtime affair, would’ve been enough to drive anyone to drink. An evening game, rivalry game, and hosting one of the most annoying fanbases we face each year wasn’t enough to be the top selling alcohol game in Sanford this past year. Nope, a familiar foe arrives to take that designation.
Tennessee, Nov. 16 $762,801
Auburn, Oct. 5 $516,770
Georgia Tech, Nov. 29 $495,009
Mississippi State, Oct. 12 $406,593
UMass, Nov. 23 $314,850
Tennessee Tech, Sept. 7. $298,458
Perhaps it was the Friday night kick, or folks just weren’t feeling it the day after Thanksgiving. Or maybe Tech folks just aren’t big drinkers. They are assholes, though. Just imagine what the sales will be like for next year’s home schedule, especially Alabama and Texas. Could be something that would make the Romans blush.
Anyway…top sales from Sanford were for High Noon, Tropicali, and Michelob Ultra for the year. Marc Weiser breaks it down here.
Now that’s Journal(urinal?)ism! And props to y’all pushing Trop ahead of a MacroBrew! I remember many posts on the OG site yearning for Tropicalia in the stadium and folks dayum delivered. As odious as the money grab the CFB has become, an All-Time venue selling badword amounts of the Best College Town in the Universe’s local brewery’s flagship (sorry, Terrapin) on GameDay is a feel good story.
When they want to make some real money they’ll start selling bourbon.
No one purchased an ice cold Mich Ultra because it was freezing. If bourbon or vodka were sold, now that would be a different story.
I admit that I am not a beer guy, but what gives with these top sellers? Are college kids drinking really chick beer like Mich Ultra and High Noon?
Yes and also canned cocktails, Twisted Teas and the likes. The hard seltzer market has made a dent in beer sales – it’s a generational thing. Also, the Frat Bros that visit our tailgate like low ABVs so they can drink all day…
All the people who bought Michelob Ultra could have just ordered a water and had essentially the same product at a much lower price.
Alcohol sales end at the conclusion of the third quarter. I’m sure plenty of folks would have bought more beer in OT but they couldn’t. Props to the people who snuck in some bourbon to that game and were able to keep their pace going.
Hadn’t thought about that, I’d imagine the way the game was going a lot of people opted to head back to the tailgate at halftime or go home.
People probably thought they had gotten too drunk pregame because they had to be seeing the scoreboard backwards. By the time they realized it was right, it was too late to buy any more.
To up those Tech sales, probably need to add whiskey sours to the menu.
Or Cosmos
Or Zima.
If the beer sale lines are handled as badly as the rest of concessions are, that amount is probably half of what it would have been with competent sales people. On the other hand, maybe not overly drunk patrons are an overall improvement. Drunks tend to be a little scrappy, and after a close or soul crushing loss, it might not take much to incite a small riot.
Yes, the lines for $12 High Noons blocking the entrances to getting to seats is anti-awesome
Now some of us are Keto conscious, so Hard Seltzer and/or bourbon for us!
