Let’s Make a Deal

Interesting connecting posts on Twix yesterday.

The next:

We know that NIL is real, and it has its impact on recruiting. Where it has burned out some traditionalists or it has become the hill some will die on (Dabo, looking at you).

Given the first poll presented here, I wonder how much efficiency Kirby is able to get out of a smaller NIL package than others by having a championship program? Clearly, his sales pitch hasn’t changed, and the results have been fairly consistent, so something’s working. Then, there’s this:

However he does it, he still seems to be winning on the traditional recruiting trail and in the portal alike. Adapt, or die.

  1. Kirby has proven to be a good student and a quick learner, and he’s always focused on getting better. I was not positive he could (or could not) be championship calibre when hired; 2016 had some ups and some downs. But winning with a true freshman QB in his first start at ND showed me we could handle adversity. Winning by blowout the next week at home versus a senior laden, physical Miss St, coached by YHE GREATEST OFFENSIVE MIND IN CFB? That showed me we could handle prosperity. I was convinced at that point.

This is the greatest time ever to be a UGA Bulldog. It won’t last forever, but I sure am savoring it while it happens.

    • How much of the roster that traveled to perform a smack down on free shoes candy ass in 2023 can be traced to CKS, “The Process”, established team culture, “Eat off the floor” or just plain old pissed off for being excluded from cfp…GO DAWGS!!

  2. Speaking of NIL, the state of Florida has just passed a bill that allows high school athletes to get paid for NIL. Given the fact that the NCAA is out of the enforcement business, I think this was a direct result of the Billy F-up with our new QB’s NIL. Seems the Florida legislature has maybe created a way to pay a kid to choose a Florida College. Maybe not directly, but wink, wink, nod, nod. Haven’t read the bill yet but the news report said the kid could not use his schools, name or uniform in any NIL activities. I guest they mean the High School’s name.

    • So, I guess a kid could get paid Florida NIL $$ in high school and then still commit to UGA? Win, win fpr UGA iyam.

  3. our lead Dawg is 100% invested 24x7x365 which is great but with the €€€$$$£££ he is making he prob will not be a ‘25+ yr head coach’ as he will look to enjoy family life a little…so let’s all enjoy this time.

  4. CKS has created something so powerful that it bends the will of young pups to match his vision – it’s incredibly impressive in this day & age. (I think Saban could have done the same had he been in his 40s or early 50s when all this change came about, but approaching retirement he decided to say “fuck this” and enjoy his golden years). I for one cannot wait to buy Kirby’s book(s), autobiographies, etc. whenever they come out. I think there’s a lot to learn from him.
