Just a Reminder That Blood Ain’t Thicker Than Water

Hey, this happened:

But there’s the reality:

On his third team now, from Michigan to Alabama (or vice versa) to Georgia Tech, Kirby doesn’t have time for your legacy.

Go Dawgs. For life.

Unlike some other people.

  1. I am amazed how few kids of former players play at Georgia. David Jacob’s kid is the latest 5 star that committed to Ohio st. Georgia can’t make the top 3 for Juan Daniels kid. Thornton’s kid is a Florida. Maybe it’s more the parenting skills.

    • I see your point about the parents. But I have seen a different point of view. I live in a county where there is a family of freakish size men, two of who had good NFL Careers. Their opinion of college balls is/was: the coaches are there for their careers. It’s not quite “they’re just using you” it was more “you’re there as a pathway to financial security”

      • Yeah, I would love to have DJ, but he is absolutely choosing financial security, and can’t say I blame him – his dad’s career was ended by one freak play, so get it while you can….

        • Plus some of these kids have been trying to escape their dad’s shadow all their lives. Why perpetuate it by going to the school where they made their names?

        • I get your point and Russ’ below. With Jacobs, I would have thought the way Georgia, the fan base and CMR treated his dad would have carried a lot of positive mojo.

          • It absolutely does, and he is a great kid outside of football as well. But the money Ohio State has agreed to pay him is obscene. I think Kirby’s approach of come here, prove yourself and earn it is the right one, but again what DJ is getting from Ohio State upfront is more than what anyone at Georgia has ever earned from Kirby….

  2. Yeah, that stung a bit to me -Tuck Fech However, Kirby looking back is snickering under his breath. We got Rod Robinson that year, who also didn’t pan out.

  3. I am under no impression that the The University of Georgia is in and of itself something special because it’s Georgia. We do however have two of the finest subjects of lore to enrich us: Larry and Lewis.

  4. It is indeed a different world. Just as we in business life make choices we feel are best for our future, so are these kids. More power to them

  5. For some of these kids, I imagine they don’t want to go someplace where they’ll always be “so-and-so’s kid” and possibly have to live up to their dad’s reputation. Going to a different school helps them have their own identity.

    • Justice Haynes. Daddy caught the pass in video, Verron Haynes. He said before the season , that tech had the best RB combo in the nation. How’s that working out? tech SUX!!!

    • Yeah, I figured it out, but some posts on here seem to come from at least one author who probably spends a little too much time on twitter. For those of us that don’t use twitter or other social media, it can sometimes come across as trying to decipher a mutually intelligible language, like a Finn talking to a Swede or a Russian talking to a Ukrainian.

Blogs are inherently different than social media, and I think if you’re gonna run a blog it shouldn’t be much of a “hey, I saw this thing on social media, let me repost it with very little added context.” If you don’t have content to post, I’d rather not read the latest social media silliness for the sake of something new showing up.

        • I 100% disagree with his take on the blog posts. Post whatever you see fit, I’ll click on it (except musical palette cleansers, I dont do those). I understand that X (formerly twitter) has become a de facto source for news and information, while others may not. Keep up the good work, fellas.

Maybe so. However, that is not something to be celebrated or to which we should collectively contribute. That place is a race to the bottom no matter the subject. I prefer outlets that actively resist the stupidification of coverage that it encourages.

        • I like it when stuff is re-posted here. This is all I surf on the web, and I like seeing other Georgia related stuff that those who put this thing together re-post here. It’s like someone is out there gathering stuff we’d like to see and bringing it to us. Thanks!

  6. Whether legacy or not, feels like the days of GA raking in 5*’s will be few and far between from here on. Only the rare 18 yr old that can think long term will consider the less cash now, more later option.

      • With today$ current nil undertow, compounded, by that lovely dream of next level living, everyone with talent (or so they were told) wants to play today, at UGA football, there lives a “process”, one that states, in no uncertain terms, effort during practice gets you playing time…effort + receives playing time, sometimes stars will have to sit or transfer at UGA football, in order to see the field of play…GO DAWGS!!

    • Would pay to read or hear that Smart Family conversation, with reference to what parents say to their children, when it comes to making life decisions….who doesn’t think that Mr. Andrew Smart hasn’t had a few doors opened for him, considering some of his family members…GO DAWGS!!
