Is This the Yummy Rat Poison?

Kirby should literally write a letter of thanks to the national media pundits. It couldn’t come at a better time for the off week and what’s to come for Georgia practices leading up to the game with Bama.

Georgia football has dropped from the third-best projected win total to 18th best and its 1.4 percent chance of winning its remaining games dropped from seventh to 26th. Last year Georgia was given a 22.4% chance of winning all of its games in the regular season and proceeded to go 12-0. In 2022, it was given a 22.7% chance and was also able to go 12-0.  Georgia is given the fifth-best chance at winning the SEC at 7.8 percent, behind Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. Georgia is given a 70.3 percent chance of making the playoff, fifth-best in the country. It is given a 16.2 percent chance of making the national championship and an 8.3 percent chance of winning it all, both fifth-best in college football.

So you’re saying there’s a chance…just not as good because the computers overlook things like injuries, bye weeks, and the fact that Georgia has played a considerably harder schedule than the remaining teams they say will beat Georgia?

Reminder that EA Sports had Colorado in their Top 25, and games aren’t played out on in the AI world, even Sagarin rankings are wrong a good bit of the time, and our schedule hasn’t been one that people would cake walk through, as I alluded to in yesterdays post about scheduling. The one cupcake we did schedule, Kirby opted to a gentleman’s agreement to run the clock while another opted to onside kick up 30 and the other opted to have their starting quarterback slinging touchdown into the 4th quarter, all to make the computers say what they’re saying.

Sometimes, it’s real clear where the brain trust lies in college football coaching, and it ain’t in Knoxville or Oxford. Keep feeding the stats to the computer guys, and Kirby will keep feeding the rat poison to the team.

Just remember the game is played on a real field, with real players, and with real people named Starks, Beck, and Williams. Like it or not, the computer doesn’t determine the winner…the competitors do.

  1. If Kirby read that, bet he got a woody better than Viagra, Cialis, or any of the other stuff on the market could give him. Ammunition for his practices and meetings, I think the Dawgs are gonna hit the field @ Bama foaming at the mouth. Revenge for last year’s SEC Championship loss will DEFINITELY be on their minds. Turn Walker and Williams loose on Milroe and have him running for his life, none of that spying shit from last year.

    • Making that guy run is making him do what he does well. I’d rather make him make tough decisions from the pocket. That is what he struggles with. Containment, rather than flushing him out, makes sense to me.

That defense that Tampa used to beat Mahomes a couple of years ago will work.

It will be interesting to see if they come up with a special plan to take their #2 away.

      • Well, looking at the replay of the Kentucky game again last night, we couldn’t contain a racoon in a coon trap. Several times, and I mean several, our run fits were awful. KJ looked like a true freshman when he had to come up and make a tackle. TID getting reached and no scrapping LB to contain. I’m sure there will be some ass chewing in film sessions. However, Kirby will be on the muther. He better be or Milroe will have a track day.

        • Very true. When I was watching I was thinking: this is a good training exercise for what we are about to see at Bama and at Texas. A lot can change from week to week. I saw an Alabama team last year that couldn’t snap the ball or count. Against us? Not a single issue. The challenge we have is executing the plan. If our OL can get its head out of its ass, if the TE’s start playing winning football and if Carson can play a full game where he is focused and locked in, we’ll be fine. If not? We won’t. We’ve had a LOT of these games under Kirby where our guys just aren’t ready: @Auburn and v. USC last year, Mizzou the year before, @ LSU before that and now UK. They’re 19 year old kids. Their minds are constantly… wherever. Not necessarily where they ought to be. Alabama has 19 year old kids too. We’ll roll it out there and see what happens.

  2. Unfortunately, no amount of rat poison or motivation will solve for Mike Bobo. I expect us to lose big at Alabama.

  3. Y’all that are suffering from Bobo Derangement Syndrome compare his numbers with Monken’s. I know, I know. Facts don’t matter, only your feelings. It’s astonishing how people talk with such conviction yet don’t know what they’re talking about.

  4. I hope I’m wrong. It would be great to leave Tuscaloosa with a victory. If anyone can do it, Kirby and this program can, and it will be in spite of Bobo’s playcalling.

    • Does it only one way? Does Bobo get credit when plays work or just the blame when they don’t?

      • Let me guess: you blame “execution”. Well guess what, if the offense isn’t executing, the buck stops at the OC. He either needs to make sure the players are able to execute his offense, or he needs to adjust his playcalling to put the players in the best situation to be able to execute effectively. Bobo has done neither. This is objectively true. You Bobo supporters are in denial and it’s pathetic.

        • I’m not a “Bobo supporter”. I just can’t stand when people who don’t know what they’re talking about say dumb shit and act like is a fact. Kirby thinks BObO is a good OC. That’s good enough for me on its own. But just for kicks you ought to go watch Film Don’t Lie and their break down of the Kentucky game film and then watch Brooks Austin’s break down of same. Brent Rollins and Brooks Austin have forgotten more about football than any fan will ever know. Guess what? They both think your assessment is horse shit. Sorry, but I’m just gonna have to give those three opinions a lot more weight than yours. In specific, what would you have done to make the offense succeed against what Kentucky was doing? You don’t know. What should Bobo have done? Again be specific. You do t have a damn clue.

          • Brooks Austin is a fvcking hack. The fact that you trust his opinion tells me all I need to know about you. And you think Kirby is going to throw his friend under the bus in public? I know people in the program and there is criticism of Bobo’s playcalling within the walls of Butts-Mehre. But you wouldn’t know anything about that, you stupid, sad little boy.

  5. Bobo is one part of the offense. He doesn’t coach Morris the correct path to cut off a LB, which cost us a big play, that’s on Searles. There were a number of offensive line misassignments. Ratledge going down and position swaps probably contributed. Being a former offensive line coach, you cross train your personnel, however it can cause some confusion when you start out on the right side and then have to switch to the left. Just brain farts. The good thing is all of this is correctable and we have two weeks to do it.

  6. While there is cause for concern, I’m not in panic mode….YET. Last year, we looked like crap in the early going in several games. The O-Line at first looked pathetic and many were calling for Searles head (me included). The Senator’s calming influence got us to back away from the ledge and things turned out pretty good. Here’s hoping history repeats itself.

    • Yes grass hoppa’, assume the lotus, “remain calm, all is well”, the wwl’s control of the cfp committee and it’s format, plus any B.S. wins/losses narrative they throw out to enhance the low info audience to run to their betting app/website ensures the college football sunset is closer than we want to admit…#47 says “it’s a freakin’ 2 minute warning”… GO DAWGS!!
