Plan to fail.
I’m curious to know what the plan for today’s game was, because it disappeared after the first Ole Miss possession. Swing passes and letting the quarterback read the Bible in the pocket isn’t the way to win games. That’s on both sides of the ball, and Kirby has some decision making to do.
Well, that sucked. Maybe it’s players, maybe it’s coaches and scheme. IDK. The Laner’s damn sure had Bobo by the nuts tonight. SMDH…
He had Kirby and Schumann. One of the shittiest defensive coaching performances of the Smart era.
How could you tell? I was watching from HD and I didn’t see our DB’S
That was the worst-coached performance since 2016. Pantsed on offense and defense. Very unimpressive. Fire Bobo and get Buster Faulkner.
Pitiful showing all the way around. It might be time for SEVERAL staff changes on offense. Our OL is putrid.
I was VERY anti Searels at the beginning of the season last year. By the end of the season, I had a tenuous change of heart. Apparently, what we saw at the end of last season was a mirage and we are now back to a typical Searels OL.
I watched the product Searels put on the field in Chapel Hill. His O lines there nearly got Sam Howell and Drake Maye killed for several years. I spoke out against his hire and several people shouted me down, because Kirby knows best. I think we can all agree that Kirby might not be right every time.
Gotta admit…It looks and feels like a CMR team.
This is the best summary of everything typed on GTP today. Wonder why that is. 🤔🤔
Because I am an astute observer of UGA football and I’ve seen this shit before.
Well, maybe now Kirby might be a little more humble next week in conferences and interviews. He has been a total dick lately, let’s all be honest. Maybe because his best friend can’t coach an offense or maybe because his players can’t stop getting arrested. I dunno. But this is a big drop off. Bobo put up 3. The other 7 took a 4th down after an INT in their territory. Just a terrible display on both sides.
Bingo.
Not a bad point either.
For me the O-Line coach should back up to get his check this week. This was putrid and he should own it.
We got our ass handed to us tonight. Coaching changes are a must in off season. We are NOT a playoff team.
Step 1 replace James Coley as WR coach. Step 2 totally replace almost every skill position player. There’s not a single one that would be a starter on any playoff team. You have a few nice pieces no offensive stars like we’ve seen in the recent past.
Is the lack of quality receivers and running backs NIL related? I have no idea if the NIL funding is equal to teams like Oregon, OSU, TU or even UT and UM.
Yes please. Also, send CSS packing as well.
Coley is shit as a coach. But damn, he’s a recruiting machine!!! Can’t he be designated to broom closet coach but still be required to recruit???
I keep hearing that but who has he recruited? He’s the WR coach and our WRs are ass. Is he recruiting other positions, because he sure as he’ll ain’t recruiting that one.
He’s been here since January. He had zero to do with the players currently on the roster. Have you looked at the commitment list?
Not really. Commitments don’t mean much these days. Plays decommit all the time, so I never waste my time with that news.
You complained about Coley and about WR recruiting. I answered. He has zero input on who is currently on the roster (may have had an impact on the 2 transfers). Let’s check back in on in December.
Recruiting machine, I think not. Top 8 WR in last years recruiting rankings and ones from GA. HE DIDN’T SIGN A ONE, NONE, ZIP.
Jeremiah Smith – Ohio State, Ryan Williams – ALA, Cam Coleman – Auburn. All starting as true freshman.
A few more, Micah Hudson – Texas Tech, Mike Matthews – Tenn, Jeremiah McClellan -Oregon, Perry Thompson – Auburn, Mylan Graham – Ohio State
He signed the 21st – Nitro, who has contributed zip.
He’s only been back in Athens since 24 Feb 24. I don’t put the recruiting on him although I do put the coaching (or lack thereof) on him.
We’re a playoff team. Not a championship caliber team.
If I might clarify, “fringe playoff team”
This! We will not be a playoff team if today’s team & coaching staff shows up next Sat.
We’ll see. The team that stepped on the field yesterday isn’t a playoff team. If that team shows up the next 2 weeks against Tennessee and Fech, this team is headed back to Jacksonville.
All this talk about playoff seeding, shit, we keep playing like this and we don’t even make the playoffs. I thought the goal was to keep improving as the season went along. Where the fuck is the team that whipped Texas???
That team was on the field for the first 4 minutes and decided they’d taken the Rebels’ soul and could coast. Problem is, there was 56 minutes of game time left… that’s on the team leadership and coaching.
For some reason they backed off after sacking Dart twice and getting an INT on the first series (when the backup came in and marched us down the field). Obviously the only way this team wins is if the D plays with it’s hair on fire and gives the O short shots at a TD. Dart came back and adjusted as did Kiffin’s calls. Bend but don’t break works if your offense can score, but we couldn’t.
well that went over like a turd in a punch bowl.
OLine got their ass handed to them.
I have no idea what the O game plan was?
1st loss in 50 games to non bama team…oh yeah this is what it feels like…margin for error is gone…now let’s rebound and whip vols ass next week!
Curious, and non Dawg related, what time are you watching these games? If I’m calculating correctly, this is starting around 9 or 10 your time and you’re starting around 1 in the morning for a 7:30 kickoff? Am I doing that right? I always wondered what it’s like to watch in Europe?
Usually, If the games are at 7pm ET US time then I watch them on Sunday(all communication devices are off until I watch it). But if the game has enough “juice” i will stay up and watch it.
However It is hard to yell and scream when the whole neighborhood is sleeping…except for when we won the first natty…i was running in the streets yelling Go Dawgs! Scared the shit out of my Greek and Spanish neighbors…I explained over beers the next day.
Ideally, the 12 pm ET kickoffs are the best unless Beth mowins has the call.
Just popping in to say this is exactly what you should expect from a Mike Bobo offense.
You’re going to have bed shitting games like this where the offense just never gets started and never shows up.
I loved Mike Bobo as a player but as a coach he’s mediocre and has no place at an elite program like ours during our peak years.
CKS, please stop wasting peak years of our program with your old college buddy at OC :(.
Not for nothing but Bobo had a top 5 offense last year. CKS has hired Coley twice now.
That was Monken’s offense and Bobo was given the keys. It took a year but he drove it into a ditch
^^ This.
Today was the worst offensive outing since 2016. And we also scored 13 against kentucky.
Our defense held ole miss to 28 points, and they played bad too. And that’s with us having like 48 turnovers
Bobo has NEVER won anything. He must go!!!
This was not a Bobo issue with me. I did question some plays BUT… if the offensive line can’t pass protect or open holes for the backs to run that would fall in the O-Line coach. I am not a football guru but I read the words of the Senator for many years. Offensive line play was one of his bailiwicks. Tonight we (UGA) were sorely lacking in the line. Find that coach, O-Line, and demand more. This was embarrassing.
I do not question Bobo or Schumann. I do question why CSS, CJF, CTR and CDW have been brought in and why they need to be employed in January.
I’d think the HC, if not the OC, would pick up on that.
I have a rule: Never do work for or business with friends, family, friends of family, or family of friends. You end up being a bad guy+asshole.
I’m ok with being just an asshole.
And I fucking hate Ol’ Miss.
#FTMF.
So true. I always heard never lend money to family or friends. So guess what I did, I’ll lent money to family. I would not have minded not being paid back, but I thought maybe in private I would get a “hey thanks”. Live and learn.
Glad to see you here, Ghurka.
Thanks man. I’ve been around but just haven’t been feeling it as much this year. Maybe it’s the 12 team playoff and I feel the regular season doesn’t mean much. It sure means something now, every game is a playoff game from here on out.
Yeah man. I miss the old guard for sure but here we are. TBH it would suck watching tonight’s debacle without the kindred souls here. I’d probably start doing puzzles or somesuch…
Either way, welcome back
Only the TEs begin to like they are ready on offense. Freshman RB fumbling the ball.
Coley, Searels, and Bobo have set the offense back nearly a decade.
I don’t think the Defensive coaches did anything that reflected great credit on any of themselves. If you thought the TEs were ready, you must have missed the whiff of a block by Delp on a double team and the drop by Yurosek.
We could get beat 2-0 giving up a seafety on special teams and some people would think the OC isn’t the problem.
safety
It’s Bobo and spreads from there. Too many people try and look at stats with him. What matters is his offenses shit the bed for much of games or entire games, especially big games. We can all argue about Bobo around the clock. It doesn’t matter. Keep him and you’ll get more of the same. Guaranteed!
Bingo.
We’ve seen this SO many years before. This is literally nothing new.
I’m as pissed as anyone. But I think overall Kirby’s done a pretty decent job since he’s been here. I’m hoping this is just one of those fucked up years where things just don’t work out. Does anyone want to bet me that Georgia doesn’t win a national championship in the next two years?
I think it turns into a reset year with a desire to get back to coaches that can coach players up rather than hiring a bunch of recruiters.
I’m not happy with the outcome but it seems like people don’t want to admit to themselves that we just aren’t as good as we were. We’ve seen championship football lately and this team just ain’t that. I had to turn my phone off during the game because it’s like some of my buddies think if just this or that happens we will be great. No. This many games in we know what we are and we are not a great team. We’re just not. I think we will be again but not this year.
I think Kirby is at a very significant crossroad this winter. Make changes and keep up. Stand pat and drift into very good program status. I’m hoping he cuts his bff loose and brings in a Chip Kelly-type OC to open things up, and makes us attractive to top tier skill players again. Bobo defenders can quote stats, but the eye test last and this season and todays absolute stinker (and other anecdotal items such as the fact that Sean McDonough was consistently calling his next plays today) tells me it’s time for major changes.
Exactly.
We need an innovative, top tier OC who also can land top tier, 1st round talent at QB, WR, etc.
We know what Bobo is. We’ve seen this movie before.
Y’all can holler and bitch about Bobo all you want but to me the offensive line is a lot bigger problem than play calling. What play do you want him to call that works without blocking? Earnest Green has no business playing left tackle. If he gets a speed rush turn out the light. He ain’t gonna be able to stop it. I noticed Truss wasn’t in at right tackle for a lot of the game. Maybe he got hurt but I did t see it. We are getting our asses kicked up front. What plays can Bobo call that will work with a shitty offensive line? To me Searles is a much bigger problem than Bobo. I’m not real warm on Coley either. I think this team just isn’t as hungry either but I can’t prove that.
I’m not bitching about Bobo but… Searles and Coley work for CMB, right?
Well Kirby is the one that hires but I’m sure Bobo made him do it.
I’d argue that. Maybe Kirby tells Mike who he’s got to work with?
Do you see a scenario where all the coaches don’t work for Kirby? Kirby seems to be a little more in the control all the operations camp than the CEO camp.
With Truss, at one point the talking heads said that they had kicked him down to guard because Ratledge was out again.
Ratledge is hurt again? Good night this team is snake bit.
I don’t know if he was out for a series or two or for the rest of the game. I never heard them mention it again, but I turned it off long before it was over. It was either than or start drinking heavily.
Agreed, people have been overlooking it, but our line play has been shit from the jump this year. Etienne in last years team would’ve had a thousand yards already,
Whoa, whoa, whoa……
You do realize ETN has NEVER had more than 700+ rushing/yr in his career, right? Bro is a 5-9 sparkplug…but incapable of 1000+ even if he behind NFL caliber OL.
Put him behind the line that Edwards has last year and tell me I’m wrong.
When you’re relying on Cash Jones to carry a bunch of yards you have a problem. Just one Robinson might help. Frazier ain’t the answer.
OL is the responsibility of the OC/Bobo, so…
Oh.l my. Ended a sentence with so. Lol. Let me try. I thought Searles was the OL coach and Kirby’s responsibly to hire and fire so…. Dumbass.
Alot of Bobo defenders on here I notice. Serious query: How do you defend Bobo calling 20-25 WR screens per game? Serious question. Is he paid by a sponsor each time it’s called. Does he have short term memory loss & can’t remember each possession that he just ran 3 of them on the last possession. I’m really curious because I’ve never seen a team at any level continue to run the same play continuously if it’s not shredding the defense. And it never shreds the defense.
Well — serious question, when has Bobo called 25 WR screens per game? Seriously. The best data I can find off of SECStatCat is coming into tonight’s game, we have run 41 called Screens and 24 RPO Screens for a total of 65 of 327 passing plays or about 20%.
If your question is why it throws so many screens, I think part of the problem is our receivers can’t get separation before the offensive line breaks down, don’t seem to know how to consistently read defenses at the snap of the ball, and struggle to catch the ball when it hits them in the hands. Because of this, defenses play the run tough and often squat 5-7 yds off the line of scrimmage. I think we run screens because our receivers seem to catch those balls better and if we are unable to run the ball effectively, we have to find a way to pick up yards on the play. I am not sure we have a that is effective without time to throw the ball.
Agree, it was an exaggeration, it only seems like that many because it is used in nearly every series. His unimaginative play calling & inability to attack defenses is maddening & never seems to get better. Other teams with far less talent seem to be able to figure out how to move the ball, how to get receivers open, how to find humans that can catch more than one type of pass, how to throw it up field occasionally. What was the overall plan of attack tonight? Where are the adjustments when things aren’t working? Where are wide side sweeps, crossing patterns, quick slants to alleviate pressure, any running play other than between the tackles, deep shots EVER. I’ve never coached football, clearly, but I know what I see is not quality. No one is threatened by GA’s offense. We have the talent to be a playoff team, but we certainly don’t play like a playoff team. I’m truly wondering what the problem is & is it solvable with this offensive coaching staff.
I 100% agree with you that the problem can’t be solved with the current offensive staff. James Coley has proven to be a top notch, excellent recruiter but I have found very little to indicate he can coach up any position. Searels is another one — except I don’t think he can recruit worth a darn and his position coaching is above average but no where near elite status. Crawford is anothe one that seems to be an elite recruiter, but I am not really all that sure he is an elite position coach.
In today’s NIL environment, I am not sure that elite recruiting of five years ago is the same as it is today. I am not sure we have the right offensive staff to match up with today.
Explanations, not defense:
1) The OL play was putrid last night. Both tackles got whipped as did our center. That alone killed so many plays. We were shuffling the lineup all night to no effect.
2) Bobo goes 1st down PA attacks, then runs on 2nd down to get to a manageable 3rd down yardage. We have had no success with those deep shots this year. Even when the OL has time, Beck and the WR/TEs have missed for all the reasons discussed on this blog.
3) Etienne can’t carry 30 times a game. He’s not that back and is now banged up. Frazier is a freshman doing stupid freshman things. Cash is our 5th string back thrown in as a primary. Neither the speed nor strength to be an all purpose RB.
4) With no threat of a downhill running game, no time nor success going vertical we have no choice but to use the bubble screen to stretch the D side to side. It’s not a downfield play to pick up 20, it’s to get 4-5 yards like a running play and pin the edge rushers in. Our TEs have been subpar at blocking this. We should run it more to Smith as he’s our best and fastest but also small.
5) When we do get some running rhythm we catch a penalty. We just don’t have the hogs nor RBs to crush and dominate a D front 7 for manball.
6) Carson’s a mess. Plenty of excuses, but he’s also part of the problem. Just not his year. Equivalent to a sophomore slump.
7) Bobo is Bobo. Has his play calls and dares the D to stop them. When they do, he’s not the best at changing things. We came out up tempo in the second half. Started to work but then penalties, missed blocks, missed assignments, turnovers hit. That’s not play calling but is mid-week coaching by all the staff.
We lost 2 games this year and have looked bad in others because of Monday-Friday, not Saturday. Team failure from Kirby down to the trainers. Losing Pittman, Monken, Dell, Buster, etc. has taken it’s toll. We lost all star NFL talent at every position. Not even Kirby can overcome that. Saban did until he didn’t. Turned Corch into a psychopath. No other HC has even held their job long. This is a down year and may take a cycle or two to get back to a higher standard. But win out now, and the playoffs are a crap shoot so who knows. Kirby is going to deal with Tennessee this week. Expect no changes until the games are over.
Honestly, I wouldn’t want coaching changes until the offseason, it’s very disruptive & you’re dealing with the emotions of 18-22 year olds who generally grow very close to their coaches. Agree that losing coaches is rough on any team with only Saban seemingly dealing with it at a high level. It concerns me that CKS seems to go with the familiar in hires. Faulkner not becoming OC was a blown call by Kirby who apparently went with his buddy. Coley, why? Searles is not an elite line coach, nor did he have upside, he’s not going to get better at this point. I am forever grateful for what CKS has done here & hope he stays till retirement. My only concern is has he begun falling into the Coach Richt habit of hiring friends & familiars (and keeping them despite underperformance) or will he evaluate as a top CEO & make the hard choices. These are things I would not be comfortable with myself but I’m not getting 9+ mil a year to do that. Understand, non of this is said in anger at what’s going on, I’m just concerned at the clear change in attitude, execution & poise that has happened, beginning with some signs last season into what we all see this season. My real hope is that the light comes on for this team, we run the table & my opinions are rendered completely useless!
Forgot, Bobo PA on 1st followed by run on 2nd is known to everyone that has watched a single game he’s coached. Goes back to his unimaginative & constantly doing the same thing that’s infuriating to watch.
It’s painful that we have to deal with Bobo defenders – AGAIN – when we already dealt with them 10-15+ years ago and the exact same thing happened.
He sucked. He sucked worse. He kept sucking. He was eventually fired and took the HC with him.
Do we really want that again?
It isn’t like this is something new folks.
We miss Sedrick Van Pran. We don’t have a leader on offense. That performance on offense was putrid. The secondary has been disappointing. The pass rush has been virtually non-existent outside the Texas game. Teams are abusing our linebackers in the passing game.
I’m as Disney as Dawgs come, but this season is likely going to end in disappointment.
I couldn’t agree more. SVP was as solid as they come. I think people don’t realize how good Muschamp was for our defense. I also think our portal game has been disappointing — outside of ETN (and thankful we got him) it has not lived up to what we had hoped for.
If the weather was that big a factor, their WRs would have dropped passes too. Instead they caught everything, usually wide ass open with room to run. Pathetic showing.
I’ve been saying the last few weeks there’s enough tape on how to beat this defense that it isn’t a surprise someone like Kiffen figured out how to unlock it. By the 3rd quarter, I was stoked every time OM ran instead of passed. Likewise on offense – OM was sitting on those WR/RB screens all night and we are definitely hurt by not having at least one of the Robinson’s at RB. It is a valid point to say Bobo was handcuffed if the OL continues to be Dorn playing ole all night at 3rd, but damn Bobo, call a slant for gawd’s sake. There’s gotta be some other plays in the crayon box that get the ball out of Beck’s hands quickly. And as bad as the D looked most of the night, we still held them to a bunch of FGs, so if the offense could’ve stopped stepping on its own dick all night, we might’ve been able to pull the game out.
Perhaps it’s coaching turnover, but our players aren’t playing up to a standard. I’m wondering if NIL isn’t playing a little havoc to our roster in terms of leadership, chemistry and focus. This clearly isn’t a championship team, but it is a championship roster (outside of OL). I’m hopeful Kirby will have the right diagnosis in the offseason but that it includes some combination of Coley, Searles, and/or Bobo being shown the door.
The best thing possibly for this program would be for Arkansas to lose out and for the Pitt Boss to get fired. Kirby could possibly convince him to come back to rebuild the offensive line if he decided not to retire and enjoy his money.
Great call. Ima go crack me a cold beer in homage to the gods. May it come to pass…
We are who we thought we are. Alabama fans.
DEAR GOD. You’re not wrong, though.
