Yep, I found the scheduler thingy so you guys can banter about in the mornings over your coffee.
I decided to look back over the Senator’s posting schedule back in September of 2021. I began to notice a pattern. Most of his posts were done on the hour, the quarter hour or the half hour. So, from that I am deducing that he would do his readin’, ritin’ and ‘rithmatic’in’ in the evenings and schedule the posts to hit the next morning. Or, possibly, but not likely, that he was up that early each day reading, digesting and writing out his thoughts every 15 minutes? Possible, but not likely. So, I’m beginning to see how to manage this thing. We’ll see what happens in the coming days.
MD – thank you for your work in setting up this contingency plan. If it becomes permanent, I’d ask you to please consider posting the James Brown-Vince Dooley pic at the top of page for old times sake. Never realized how much I liked the photo until it was gone…
yeah, I was tempted to grab it already and put it up but, not knowing the future here, I’m waiting
Thanks again for doing this. If it gets to be a lot, don’t hesitate to reach out to folks for help; there’s some talent in this community. And if you ever need a viewpoint from someone who knows nothing about football strategery, I can help.
knowing nothing about football strategery is my super-power lol
I am definitely open to contributors if this goes forward!
Doing a helluva job MD. The Senator would be proud.
Does anyone have any additional details on the Cochran and Dickey resignations? Kirby’s boilerplate “wish ‘em well” has me wondering what happened and why now?
Kirby is the master of keeping the lid on things. Information does not typically leak out. Unless Cochran or Dickey makes it public, we will most likely never know. If we do find out from Butts-Meher and it was not OK’d by Kirby, we will see another “resignation” shortly thereafter.
I doubt anyone outside of Kirby’s head has details – least of all me – so let me speculate. 😉
First, the timing is perfect. Ideally any staff change should happen after recruiting and before spring practice. Check. Second, whatever the reason for leaving it is appropriate to wish the departed well and Kirby has consistently done this since he has been here. There is no gain in airing dirty laundry (if any exists) in public. Scott is where most of the speculating comes in – I think either Kirby had gotten to the end of his rope with him OR the administration bean counters told Kirby that they appreciated him trying to help him, but enough’s enough. Who knows?
There was a beef with Cochran? I heard there were health issues…
Agree, that’s my understanding also, and I suspect he was unable to earn his salary because of that. Like I said, just a guess, but if I am right his leaving may be getting rid of deadwood without setting fire to it. Just speculation on my part. “Getting to the end of his rope” was a bad choice of words.
Thanks for the work MD. I hope this continues to build and that everyone eventually settles over here if that’s in the cards.
agreed, if this is meant to be, it will be, if we get a new landlord over at GTP, we’ll all just go back in and take our usual places at the table
MD, it would appear that it is now your circus and your monkeys.
Thanks again. God only knows how much time the Senator’s labor of love took each day. Sounds like you’re rapidly finding out.
Well, as one of the commenters said, 30 days is the appropriate time to give a situation like this. I’m not taking ownership of any monkeys just yet!
We’re kind of like stray animals. Once you start feeding us, we’ll return each day to eat until you cut us off.
In all seriousness, I’m glad there is a contingency plan in place.
It’s good that a place for us to appear is in place. If the original is meant to continue, great. If it’s one of those things that goes away with the founder, we adapt.
I knew the Senator and his crew in law school. I was not part of his inner circle, but I liked them all. I didn’t agree with all his opinions, or topic choices, but I enjoyed his blog. I commented a lot, possibly not always to universal acclaim, including his, but semi reasonable opposing viewpoints were allowed. He ran it how he wanted to run it. You have to respect that.
Perhaps it is the law of unintended consequences that so many of us faceless internet heathens have become regulars, to the point that we kind of looked to GTP as almost family. A large, possibly dysfunctional, certainly raucous family, but still. GTP is a place we would miss. What follows the Senator won’t be the same, exactly. How could it be? But if the basic elements of UGA fanaticism, a certain Munsonian fatalism, a distinct disregard for our rivals (FTMF. SO SAY WE ONE, SO SAY WE ALL) and a youthful enthusiasm for everything that goes with fall in Athens are still the operating principle, it can be a tribute to him. I can’t speak for him, but I have to think he would like that.
I don’t know any of you guys (I know a few of the Senator’s crew are on GTP, no idea who hey are), but I’d probably have an adult beverage with 99% of you. I hope that what he built can continue in dome way.
Thank you for doing this, and definitely agree with your research. He read most of the CFB news at night and posted commentary in the morning. He did at times post in the late morning, so he probably caught some morning articles and posted on them as well. Anything non-earth-shattering published after noon was reserved for the following day.
Excited to see where this goes. Wish I had time to help, but for now I’ll just be reading and commenting from time to time.
Yep, that’s what it looks like to me as well and that’s exactly how I would/will approach it.
Thank you for the posts! Go Dawgs!
Saw where the Georgia State coach (Elliott) just left that job to become the TE coach for the Gamecocks. Apparently his family had remained in Columbia and he’s been commuting from Atlanta, when he can, for years.
Del McGee’s name was the first listed in the Athletic article about possible replacements. Would sure hate to lose him, but I think he’ll get a head coaching job eventually
Coach McGee no doubtedly watched, listened as the UGA football HC grows, taken good notes and is waiting for that moment in time, would he be missed on staff given his results, well fuck yes, that CKS rolodex has some good info, along with good results, when needed…GO DAWGS!!
I used to set my posts to go up at 6:30 am or so. I definitely found I got more views once I started doing it that way. I would write in the evening and schedule the post to publish early the next morning.
When I moved over the Bulldawg Illustrated with Greg Poole, we would do the same thing. When they started to being more hard news than fan blog, I stepped back.
Looks like you could contribute here!
EE Thomas (?), if you see this, shoot me an email at rainmon11@aol.com, got a question!
Just sent.
I really appreciate your efforts Morris Day
You are doing the Lord’s work here.
Regarding Football:
I like this. Connelly is pretty good at picking this stuff. ESPN is not the top guys, but I still like this.
I am ready for this season to start….
ESPN’s Bill Connelly has released his first SP+ rankings for 2024.
The rankings are based on multiple factors, including returning production and recent recruiting for each team.
There are a lot of teams that have good cases to be in the top sport, including Michigan and Ohio State.
Michigan just won its national title since 1997 while Ohio State is set to bring back a lot of talent for next season.
Despite that, Connelly has Georgia in his top spot as the program tries to win its third national title in the last four seasons. The Bulldogs return a lot of key players, and they have a chip on their shoulders after losing to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game.
Here’s a look at the top 10:
Georgia
Ohio State
Oregon
Texas
Michigan
Alabama
Penn State
Ole Miss
Notre Dame
LSU
GO DAWGS. LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE.
Morris, just wanted to give a big thank you for your making a move and starting this. Like an all y’all losing the Senator was tough news for me. But what made it even worse was the idea that we would all be scattered and would t ever get together again. Thanks again. I’m really glad we have this. This is Mike Cooley in case I post and it shows something else as the commenter.
All good Mike, and you show up as Mike Cooley! Just as God and WordPress intended. 😉
Happy to be back to a daily routine.
Thank you!
