Huddle Up 09.14.2024

Good morning. I want to apologize to everyone for the aggravation this site has been causing the past couple of weeks. We’ve noticed a lot of you have backed off on commenting because it’s just so annoying having to constantly sign-in, refresh, etc. I understand.

When I decided to start this effort, the intent was to have fun running this and stay in touch with the group that I had become so endeared to under the Senator’s reign. I never wanted something that was buggy as hell and constantly needing tweaking, repairing, etc. Not what I signed up for.

We’ve reached out to WordPress several times for support and they have basically told us we are imagining these problems and there’s nothing wrong with our site. I’m at the point, I don’t know what else to do. Will a WordPress update down the road fix the issues we’re having now? Will anyone still be here if/when that happens?

I don’t want to mope around about this too much today, it’s Game Day! No time for website problems today, there are beers to down and Dawgs to cheer! I just wanted to touch base with everyone and let y’all know that we haven’t completely given up on the problems but, we’re soon to run out of ideas to try.

Go Dawgs!

  1. Great job and so far no problems here. Posting from a Samsung android. Only thing that bothered me was when the banner first went up, all I could see was a Bama player front and center. 🤣. Anyway…Go Dawgs!

  2. As long as this place is here and there is a window to climb through where I can comment I’ll still be here. Maybe some sort of backup plan could be put in place in case things keep screwing up. I do t know. I do t want this thing to fizzle. Really glad to have it.

  3. Otis, you and your team hang in there and we will too. After all, we waited 41 years for another National Championship, shouldn’t be that hard to wait this glitch out. Remember as a kid I would tell my Daddy to wait about something and he always said, “Boy, wait (weight) broke the wagon.” 😁

  4. Ranger Russ wouldn’t give up just because of some technical weirdness and bugs. He’s call us all a bunch of bitches if we quit and I ain’t a quitter and ain’t gonna disrespect the memory of the man Ranger Russ like that.

      • Damn I hate to deliver this news. Yeah we lost the Ranger just a little over a month after the Senator left us. He was posting here right up until then and over in the comments at GTP spreading the word about this place and inviting people over. From what I gather his death was totally unexpected. I never met him but felt a real sense of loss when Otis posted the news here. I miss him and do all I can to contribute here because like him I really like having this and want to keep this bunch together.

  5. Keep up the good work. One feature that’s not working for me is when I hover the cursor over the like, no names are displayed. I always like to see who liked what comment.

  6. Be assured, in regard to these technical issues, that I am doing my part as well as I am able:

Can we hire a kid in Bangalore to handle this stuff for the price of a sack of rice a week or something? It would be mutually beneficial saving us from the hassle and annoyance and possibly sustaining a small village in South Asia.

If only we could find this one:

    They’re game ready.

  7. Thanks for your persistence. You are helping the Senator live. Go Dawgs!

  8. Yup, it’s Game Day – have to ignore the aggravation and face the task at hand. Sorry for the trouble you have to go through, but know that I and I’m sure others appreciate what you’re doing.

  9. Testing on IPad via WP Reader. Surprised WP won’t help…it’s their problem I’m sure. We’ll all keep plugging away.

    • Weird. Tried another browser which asked for sign-in and got a message this site was private and required permission to access from owner. Wonder if you will get a request? I’m guessing that’s not a setting you have on.

  10. If having to refresh to get a comment to post is the worst thing we all have to live with each day, then we all have some pretty damn good lives (kind of goes without saying if you’re a DAWG fan). As others have said, the OG hard core GTP Refugee crowd ain’t going anywhere as long as it;s up and running. We may bitch and moan a little (it’s what we do) but we will continue to be part of this motley crew that The Senator assembled. Where else can I get my daily dose of #FTMFs?
I think I can speak for all who come here. We’re all VERY grateful that you guys shouldered the task of keeping this going. I for one felt like a part of my day was missing before this was resurrected. Once again THANK YOU

  11. I had to log in and deal with the WP website in my Safari browser at first, then I was able to log in and stay logged in using the standalone Jetpack app. I don’t love the fact I can’t use a browser tab, but the app works pretty well on my iPad. In my experience the WP website for GTP became really problematic about a year ago, maybe more, on Safari and Chrome, laptop or mobile. Jetpack is pretty consistent and stable but I’m all on iOS devices.

  12. One final note on this topic – the biggest problem for me is inconsistency. Some days one thing works in the morning but it is different by evening. Sometimes I try to post and I get a you have to be signed in to post so I sign in. The screen shows that I have signed in. Then when I hit send I get another you have to be signed in to post notice. I have taken some screen shots – which I think are time-stamped – that you could show WP if you think it would help.

    • There’s another issue with you, in particular. There is a setting in WordPress that basically says ” allow user to comment once they have an approved comment”. You get routed for approval every time, no matter how many times I approve you, you still get sent in for approval. I’m fairly certain WordPress will just tell us to clear our cache.

  13. I’ve had no problems. And will be here for as long as the blog remains. My go to blog and appreciate you guys for doing this.
