Huddle Up 08.16.2024

Good morning! We are 15 days from kickoff of the Dawgs 2024 football season…

Auburn sucks.

One of those quintessential artists of the 80s that I always loved to hear, has passed away. Greg Kihn, leader of The Greg Kihn Band died at the age of 75. Most people are familiar with his hit “Jeopardy” but, I got clued into Kihn when his first radio hit appeared:

I also admired his creativity in naming his albums, titles like “RockKihnRoll”, “Kihntinued” and “Kihnspiracy” were cool plays on word (yes, I am a nerd). In the early 2000s, I had a blog named Fun With Vinyl, where I took out of print vinyl records, recorded them digitally to my computer, cleaned up the sound, edited out excess “silence” and shared the recordings with my blog readers. One record I did was the 12″ extended version of “Jeopardy”. Greg actually reached out to me to compliment my effort, I never forgot that. Thanks for the tunes Greg, may you rest in peace.

Go Dawgs!

  1. I heard Sly and the Family Stone on Sirius yesterday and when I looked, I realized for the first time this was the actual name of the song: Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin). Creativity in spades!

  2. Otis muh man, I Kinh only say your proper up bringing has brought you to us, at this point and time…GO DAWGS!!

  3. I also have very fond memories of the Breakup Song, and I liked the video for Jeopardy (though I haven’t seen it in 40 years, and it might be horrible in retrospect). Greg and Donnie Iris, Billy Squier, Dwight Twilley, and Graham Parker… guys of that ilk are not forgotten, but sadly they almost are.

  4. Otis, did some research and I know the Fun With Vinyl blog is dead, but are there any remnants of it available to read? I still record vinyl and cassettes into MP3s and clean them up.

    • Well, that blog went through several changes. I got hacked once while running it. Why? No frigging idea, it didn’t make money, at all. So, I had 3 different addresses while I was doing it, all of them are at the Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/20240000000000*/fun%20with%20vinyl

All the djrichiep URLs are me. djrichiep.us is probably the best one to look through.

I still have ALL the material I recorded. If you want to discuss personally, hit me up here: https://gtprefugees.wordpress.com/about-2/3516-2/

I’m always happy to discuss it, I still dabble in stuff like that. I’ve recently set up a configuration for converting VHS/VCR video to digital. I’ve converted all of my family videos and recently converted my buddy’s wedding and reception videos. Looking to start doing business locally, then, maybe, expand.
