Good morning! 209 days down in 2024 and 35 left until kickoff!

This gentleman holds one of the 10 major records in Georgia Bulldogs football history. He racked up 170 tackles in 1984 after first setting the tackles record in 1983 with 166. He owns the top two single seasons for tackles and ranks 6th overall in his career. He also hammered Tech with 26 tackles in 1983, setting the single game records for sacks. After previously setting it at 25 against Auburn earlier that season. So, yeah, he owns the top 2 single game tackle totals, as well.
So, I browsed through the Top 10 tackles leaders in UGA history, looking for recent players. There are none. The most recent player in the record books is Armalo Herrera who is 10th all time with 334, right behind Bill Goldberg’s 348. Herrera played from 2011-2014. It’s my assertion, that with all the changes to the way defense is managed in today’s football, Those that are in the top 10 of the record book will never be passed. No one plays, even in 1 game, enough to make the amount of tackles needed to move into the record books.
Go Dawgs!
That has as much to do with how much offenses have changed as anything. Those high tackle numbers were a result of lots of running between the tackles. There is more three yards and a cloud of dust football.
Knox Culpepper was playing in an era of I formation and wishbone football in this conference. That wouldn’t really begin change until spurrier showed up a few years later.
As far as total plays played per season, I’d think that Roquan would be close to Cullpepper and Zambiasi.
Is that picture Knox Sr?
Knox Sr. from the 1956 team
The stadium seats in the background, the cut of the uniform and the haircut show it could not be a mid-1980s player. Good guess.
Okay, this one was a trick question, I guess? It sure tricked me. Here is the article I pulled photo and info from:
https://247sports.com/contentgallery/10-major-georgia-bulldogs-football-record-holders-120222423/#938174
The photo is captioned “Circa 1954-56”, which I didn’t read!
Then the paragraph is about the player from the 80’s.
Confusing but, y’all figgered it out!
Good players also rarely play 4 years, especially at 1 school.
