Let’s not forget it’s the Year of the Longhorns, Part 8, which has been pronounced every year since Sam Ehlinger determined that they’re back. Tons of NIL money invested, a stout defense being coached by Will Muschamp and Mike Stoops, and Wunderkind generational quarterback, Arch Manning.
One problem, though, is that they’re still being coached by Steve Sarkisian, and it’s understandable to be doubtful about Sark’s ability to coach the team through the biggest games in a host of forums. Consider this X defense of his resume in recent years, though:
Well, for starters:

34-8 record, losses to Ohio State, appearance in the B1G Championship, and a Playoff appearance. Sounds solid, right?
So real question here…where would Sarkisian land if he falls short of expectations in Texas this year? One would have to imagine that the heavy investments in NIL as well as coaching support staff would warrant high expectations, right?
You know, it’s not too much of a stretch to think that there’ll be an opportunity open in a familiar land by season’s end.

Or maybe South Carolina or Clemson. Who knows.
So who do you think is on the hottest of seats in the SEC this year?
Boom always wanted the Head job at Texas, maybe he is the “Head Coach in waiting” again. See ya Sark!
However, I think Beemer is in the hottest seat. The Gamecocks are going to show Beemer the backdoor…
The SC coach is Shane Beamer. What you drive is a Beemer. 🙂
Just glad that gives me the chance to dig up one of my favorite Coach 30 vids:
To Jim Hill who acts like he knows the SEC even though he only arrived yesterday … first, Bill Curry at Alabama (he wasn’t fired but they didn’t try to keep him after winning an SEC title) and second, Mark Richt.
Sarkisian should be the first to see the ax fall because he has been given every advantage (if Kirby had Texas – or A&M – NIL to work with, no one would touch Georgia … yeah, I said it). If anOSU beats them in Austin in week 2, the pressure is going to rise exponentially especially if the margin is double digits. Then, the 9 game conference schedule is going to set in. I don’t see Texas oil money being willing to support Sark if he doesn’t appear in the SEC championship game.
In my opinion, the first to see the ax fall is going to be Shane Beamer. If they lose at Florida on October 10 (I’m chalking up the game at Bama as a loss), I don’t believe Baby Beamer makes it to the game with us. That fan base seems to have developed a love/hate relationship with him, and there’s a restlessness after the underachieving season last year.
What could be interesting is if things get sideways in Ob-Knoxville. Let’s say Auburn goes into Kneeland and pulls the upset, Bobby Hill may find himself on a scorching seat if Bama breaks the 2 game losing streak up there with games at TAMU and vs. LSU still to come.
Speaking of NIL, for recruitniks in our community, how did Georgia allow DJ Jacobs as a legacy to commit elsewhere and then shut down his recruitment? Is David not close to the program anymore or was NIL so important? The kid is at Blessed Trinity, so it’s not like his family is trying to make ends meet.
I assume we made a reasonable NIL offer to get him.
My understanding is OSU broke the bank for him and Kirby will keep pushing until the end for him but won’t overpay based on his team equity analysis.
I figured it was that. Kirby rightly wants to reward retention. I just didn’t know if Dad held back because he didn’t have connection to Kirby as a player and then held the coaching change against the school enabling the door to open.
I know you said SEC, but- Anything less than appearing in the national championship game and Dabo is a goner.
Not saying those klempzun qb’s were generational, they can win titles in spite of your hc…GO DAWGS!!
Those Sark numbers are impressive in a traditional sense, but there is not another school in a large talent-rich state that has as many resources available to it than Texas. The advantages are so over the top in this f’d-up era that there is really no excuse not to be in the final four most every year. If they go the entire Manning era without winning anything, it will have to be seen as a failure.
Texas better win the SEC Championship or the CFP Invitational Championship or Sark and Coach in Waiting Muschamp will be in trouble. When this Middle East crap resolves, oil is headed to $40 a barrel and Texas won’t have any NIL money unless the AI data center dudes are big Longhorn fans.
Now THAT is the kind of global macro-economic analysis I’ve been looking for! If you learn nothing else in Econ 401, it’s that the price of energy is the price of everything. Apparently even NIL…
My money is on DeBoer. Unreal expectations + no love from most of the fanbase, a razor thin margin of error and already starting the year outside the top 10. 4 game stretch starting with us, then the hillbillies, A&M & LSU. Anything less than 3-1 within that stretch and he is done. Hell, if they loose @ LSU, Junior maybe on the plane with them back to T-Town.
Nobody’s done less with more than Sark. TU has gone all in and expects nothing less than a championship. I expect if that doesn’t happen Sark will attempt to keep Arch for another year at TU. That might save his job.
Anything less than a bowl game and I think Beamer gets shown the exit.
Who does bama hire if they fire Deboer that might be enough to save his job when added to the massive buyout. What proven coach wants to go to bama now.
Would satan endorse prime or the Aflac duck…GO DAWGS!!
