Getting the Band Back Together in Tuscaloosa

In case you were watching the Senior Bowl narratives, you might’ve noticed there was some concern over Jalen Milroe, particularly his hand size.

Depending on the outlet you followed, Milroe’s performance was spotty, at best, and he did little to improve his draft potential. As a casual observer, I opined many times that Georgia should’ve never lost to a Milroe lead Alabama team, since he has the accuracy of a blind octogenarian and was under impressive with his ability to read defenses and hit receivers when needed. He could run, though, and had a stable of talent around him, so selling out to stop the QB run wasn’t going to be the magic bullet to beat the Tide.

Anyway, it makes me wonder if Milroe didn’t play into the decision making with DeBoer’s staffing for year one in Tuscaloosa. Regardless, it looks like DeBoer is getting a critical piece back for 2025.

Color me worried. For all the hype around offensive prowess, DeBoer’s initial year wasn’t anything to write home about, but that looks to change with the addition of Grubb to his staff. Insert narrative around coordinators here, if you wish.

Also of note:

Both coordinators leaving Columbus after winning the Natty…thankful that Monken hung around for another year in 2022. Good for Brock Bowers…not so good for Ryan Day.

  1. Are we going to find out the Just for Men spokescoach is a younger Coach Oeaux over the next couple of years?

Is DeBoer about to find out his soft approach is going to catch up to him? Is the Grubb hiring a little desperation?

    • Hard to lose more than 2 games a year at Ohio State with their built-in recruiting infrastructure and tradition. And the Big 10 schedule is soft.

I think Grubb is a good coach, but not so good to be concerned with the hire. The question is whether his wife will make it miserable for him, because she had no interest in living in the south.

      • I agree with you on Ohio State. If he loses a couple more times to Michigan, no one in Ohio will remember winning a postseason tournament.

On Grubb, happy wife, happy life. Of course, his salary goes a hell of a long way in Tuscaloosa over Seattle.

    • The defense that gave up 28 first quarter points gets a pass because Bobo is offensive coordinator? Got it.

      • 15 through 3 quarters is awesome.

Yes, the defense that has had results get a pass every now then from me.

      • It’s truly amazing how many times he calls the perfect play and the players can only screw it up. You’d figure they would eventually get used to the 15 plays he calls.

  2. DeBoer is hoping to complete his PAC-12 conversion of the gumps. Methinks that won’t end well for him. I expected rental OC for anOSU to jump as soon as the season was over regardless of the outcome. He’ll probably be at Vegas for a season then jump elsewhere.

2024 was a bizarre season. Here’s to hoping 2025 is better.

  3. I think that THE osu will be fine without Chip Kelly. He really didn’t do anything that Day wasn’t already doing (like losing to Michigan with an awful game plan).

  4. hoping for a fsu win that will put the gumps on nuclear meltdown and defcon 1 levels

  5. Something is off with Day for sure, but I would take him over Coach O any day. Not sure who the best comp would be for Day. Maybe it is a combo of Coach O and CMR? He has recruited at an elite level since he took over, but has a hang up against his biggest rival and until this year kept coming up just short in the biggest game.

  6. So Milroe has small hands? Does he smell of cabbage? Maybe he should be a carney.
