Georgia Passes the Eye Te$t

Why conference expansion? The Senator basically told us it was all about the Benjamins, and this season was evidence as to why. Just think:

  • The SECCG was a rematch of a fairly lopsided Georgia win.
  • Both Georgia and Texas are fairly universally hated outside of their fan bases.
  • Much of the game was an ugly yawnfest up until the insertion of Gunner at QB (high drama!)

Still, it achieved exactly what Mickey and Company wanted:

That’s a lot of hate watching…or the marketing strategy is paying off. Just imagine the CFP ratings on Tennessee-Ohio State!

  1. Could/will UGA football vs texass be that potential annual event (maybe twice a year) where texass gets an occasional “w”, for the most part UGA football is the victor, year in, year out, not a rivalry, just the way cfp world rolls now…if this is true, Hate it for ’em….GO DAWGS!!

  2. Meanwhile, all $ankey can think about is how many more would’ve watched if it would’ve been Bammer instead….

    • Right now Sankey is trying to figure out how he can change the Dawgs’ schedule next year to make it harder, especially after Kirby’s comments at the SECCG.

      • Right, we may wind up having to play Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss on the road again, and then Tennessee on the road after Ole Miss. Wouldn’t surprise me.

        • UGA will find out if the current UGA AD has any power at the sec table that schedules….GO DAWGS!!

  3. This is in the wrong comment section, but
    Nitro is not leaving.
The list of GA players signed with the transfer portal now looks like this:

    Georgia Football Transfer Portal List:
    Julian Humphrey, DB
    Michael Jackson III, WR
    Jamaal Jarrett, DL

    • As Malaki said that Coach Smart said…if you leave we will replace you

    • Maybe he realized there’s not a lot of programs out there lusting after UGA’s receivers.
There was certainly the opportunity for the cream to rise to the top in the receiver corps this year…most coaches would probably rather take a highly rated kid coming out of HS.

  4. But was the Benz full at $100 for last minute tickets? Ratings, not butts in seats…

    • It was sold out and I’m guessing that is what they ae reporting with that number. Based upon the low prices on the resale market I’m sure there were plenty of empty seats. They were fortunate Georgia was one of the participants because that makes the empty red seats blend into the crowd.

      • Attendance last year was 78,000+, so obviously down. We had a pretty good view of the stadium from the upper end zone, and there were lots of empty seats throughout the seating areas, as you say the red seats/Georgia crowd probably masked a lot of the empty seats on TV, but we could definitely see it looking down and around. For those wondering, would also mention the crowd was probably 70/80% Dawgs; the only concentrated areas of Texas fans were the lower half of the sections behind their bench and 3 or 4 whole sections around their band in the lower corner.

        • Why would the Texas Shorthorns faithful come to Atlanta for such a mismatch against a clearly inferior team (but then again, all teams are inferior to the Shorthorns). They were waiting to see who they would be playing at New Years after their first-round bye.
A funny thing happened along the way to the CFP….reality kicked them squarely in the nuts. The team that manhandled them in Berkley East (otherwise known as Austin…not really a part of TX) took them down again on a neutral field. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe they stayed home because they KNEW that they didn’t match up well.
I was in the DFW airport during the last quarter of the game and OT. Watching the long faces and stunned disbelief made the trip (delayed of course) much more palatable.

  5. These idiots will look around and wonder why attendance is down in a few years. The sports media has already taken up the battle cry that the teams need to be reseeded for the playoffs (oh, so now you DON’T want Cinderella to have a bye?!) and how…wait for it…you guessed it…they should expand to 14 or 16 BY NEXT YEAR!

Wish the Senator was still with us to enjoy his “I told you so”.
