From Cannon Shot to Cannon Fodder

Dead man running.

South Carolina watched another good practice equate to nothing as spunky upstarts *checks notes* Kentucky came to town and beat Cackalacky in overtime on a two point conversion. That’s a lot of words to say they fell flat on their face.

Please recall that their offensive coordinator in none other that Kendall Briles, so your guess is as good as mine I another Briles is about to be ascended into head coaching duties after Beamer gets fired.

One thing is definitely for sure: Beamer Ball is over in Columbia, South Carolina.

  1. Hard to believe they gave him the job to begin with. That’s a hard swing and a miss. Add another one to the list of HC’s that Kirby has helped get their walking papers.

  2. I picked this in the preseason Mumme Poll question. A couple of years ago, I really thought Beamer had turned a corner. Too bad it was right into a brick wall.

After Da U’s dismantling of little ole Clemson last night, it looks like there are going to be 2 coaching vacancies in the Palmetto State.

  3. I’m surprised that Kentucky went for two rather than making sure there was another OT. Any X’s and O’s types out there who can rationalize/explain that?
Remember what happened to the man in “Oh, What a Lucky Man He Was”?

  4. Miami (OH) was called the cradle of coaches. Hayes, Schembechler, Drooling Lou.
South Carolina is the graveyard of coaches. Look at how many have gone through there.

    • It’s not just the graveyard of coaches. It’s the graveyard of national championship coaches: Paul Dietzel, Lou Holtz, The Ole Ball Sack…

      • And time to remind everyone, again, that Grayson Lambert set an NCAA paasing record against the ol’ Ball Sack and them Dawgs and Coach Richt made Spurrier quit mid season. #FTMF

  5. Will Kirby start his rehabilitation of coaches program and bring him back as an analyst? Dang good recruiter.

    • Wouldn’t be a bad idea. I never understood why USCe hired him as head coach. They obviously didn’t have a backup plan when UGA hired Kirby.

    • I thought there was some bad blood between them? I seem to remember Kirby and Beamer jawing across the field when we beat their ass one year.

  6. Tough to see your opponent go for 2 in OT not just to win but to end your job. Well executed pick play by KY. Chatter on X was the team had quit on Beamer and laid down on that play (one player refused to play 2nd half?) but I just see defensive backs lined up wrong and getting beat. Shane should have called TO once KY got to the line to reset his D. There is a reason he’ll be fired.

    • The rumor does raise a troubling truth. With unlimited free agency and money sloshing around players will soon figure out they can manipulate the system by revolt. You can’t be benched for insubordination when you can just go get bag somewhere else. ADs will fire coaches before watching millions in NIL investments walk out the door.

Just to continue my rant…how incentivized are the Braves to win the playoffs? The players make so much, see that they are overmatched by the Dodgers, so for $35mil a year do they really want to fight all that hard? Sure they’ll try to hit homers, run and catch but as Smoltz was saying on the broadcast the playoffs are all about doing all the little things perfectly with intensity. Back to CFB…unless you are a top 5 team how hard are players really going to work? The reward is now cash not trophies.

      End rant…for now.
