Friday Fodder for Filibustering: Hammer Time

Alright, scamps, tomorrow’s game day, and I know many of us here will be partaking in libations while cursing about Bobo, the rain, the score, or a combination of all of the above. No doubt they will resonate throughout the comment section on tomorrow’s Gameday post, so I look forward to watching alongside you all via the interwebs, and I can’t wait for tomorrow to get here.

Question of the day – what’s your poison of choice?

Personally, I think I’ll go with Classic City Lager…but I’ve also taken a shine to this, so might go with a heavier route:

Of course there’s also nothing wrong with an RC and Lance peanuts, I’ll make up my mind at the grocery store this evening.

Let’s hear it, scamps. What’re you getting lathered up with tomorrow for the game?

  1. Usually Coors Light. But I’m going to Eatonton tomorrwo to visit a freidn and he told me about a place near him that has a maple bacon stout, I’m looking forward to trying that.

  2. Got some untaxed white liquor. Every time UGA scores, we all take a shot and feed a Vienna sausage to the dogs.

    • My neighbor used to get a lot of that from Polk co Tennessee. Mostly peach and it was pretty dang good. I was in my his barn one day on birthday a couple of years back and he said, “there’s something in the fridge for yoa” I opened the fridge and there sat a quart mason jar full of what appeared to be tea….it was Polk co moonshine that had been aged 20 years in an oak barrel; it was some of the finest, smoothest home “bourbon” that I you could imagine. Even my Bourbon snob brother in law was stunned and said it was better than Pappy; he let some of his high brow Atlanta political buddies have some and they were begging me for a quart. You could take about two shots that stuff before you forgot your home address and your mommas name- it was about 150 proof. I have had some of the best bourbons in the south and nothing compared to what that old man had kept hidden in his Polk county barn.

  3. My go-to these days is Founders All Day IPA. It tastes as good if not better than many of the top microbrew IPAs but lower ABV so I can drink more.

  4. If it is really hot out I usually go with Classic City Lager or a Ranch Water. As the temps start to drop I shift towards Tropicalia and Wild Turkey Rare Breed.

    • Agree beer (Victoria or Abita Amber) for early season, then WT Rare Breed Mid October thru season end.
Give Yellowstone Toast Oak a try. A little higher proof but easy sipping.

  5. I will start with a Big ‘Ol Bloody Mary, extra spicy extra strong with all the fixings on the side.

  6. Terrapin depth perception and busch lite. Very cold. Maybe some Adictivo reposado tequila for some spice.

  7. I tend to be amphibious….

Sometimes beer. Sometimes whisky. Sometimes both… (Nothing better than sipping cold beer with a neat whisky side car, except of course the morning after which tends to really suck). Sometimes gin and tonics when its hot.

I found Fiddler bourbon a few years ago. Its a Georgia based distillery. That juice goes down really good over ice.

Not particular on beer. When I grew up there was Bud, Lite and the cheap shit I could afford like Old Milwaukee, beast lite, whatever was cheapest. Any beer flavored lager will do fine.
Y’all can have the weird tasting hoppy craft brew shit.

A lot depends on the weather. Can’t drink neat scotch on a 95 degree afternoon. Goes down good when its cool though.

This early Fall weather has me craving a wee dram, or three, of Laphroaig.

    • Fiddler bourbon from ASW is great. The owners are both UGA grads and Dawgs fans. They also bottle a brand called Hunker Down that contributes funding to UGA athletes. Stop buying Titos unless you like funding Texas football!

  8. Gonna be a long day so will probably drink a lawnmower beer like Landshark or similiar. Gonna fire up the Recteq and smoke some jerk chicken and pork steaks. Hope the weather holds for you folks going.

  9. Sweet tea, unless it’s a big game, then I’ll have either a nice bourbon or Irish whisky.

  10. Been on the wagon for over 2 1/2 years now, best decision I ever made for myself. I’ve found my way into the Non-Alcoholic beer scene and have been pleasantly surprised with I have found. I’ll be sipping either on a Best Day Hazy IPA or Go Brewing Prophets Hazy.

    • Never drank too much as a working adult anyway, but once I had to go on Eliquis the only OTC pain med I can take is acetaminophen. Since alcohol + acetaminophen = cirrhosis, I’ve decided it’s best to quit also.

  11. G&T, usually Tanqueray. Once the temperature drops into the 50s I’ll throw in some bourbon.

    • Not throwing bourbon into the G&T, lol. I meant a shot or two to warm up.

  12. Until they stopped making it, it used to be Jolt Cola & Jim Beam. Times change so I think I’ll try Classic City light and then the new Glory, Glory bourbon Creatures has after the game

    • Jolt Cola? Man, I’ll bet you were tweaking at those game! LOL

My doctor said too much caffeine was making me cranky. So I slapped him and told him to mind his own business!

      • I used to play softball in Roswell. We played a double header every Sunday. One of the guys on the team was divorced and had 2 sons, about 4 and 6 at the time. Every other Sunday he’d have his boys and bring them to the games. They’d have a 6 pack of Jolt colas and a sack with about a dozen hershey bars in it. Those little fuckers were wired for sound by the time he dropped them off to his ex that evening.

        • There used to be an insane softball league at the intramural fields on Sundays. The Georgia Bar guys played a game in dresses!!!

          • The staff of the Uptown Lounge had an ultimate frisbee team called the Uptown Guryls and they played in dresses.

God I miss Athens as a student.

  13. I’ll start with a light shaker, Pinnacle and cran, and as the game goes on they will get heavier. I’ll have the peanuts ready about game time and the more of those good ole salty peanuts I eat, the thirstier I get.

    • Rogue Dead Guy Ale. Although that will have to wait until the second half when I get home.

  14. I have been trying to keep my weight below 200 so lean on Lite/white claw and some vodka or whisky. Kind of on a vodka kick lately.

  15. Bulleit. Bourbon or rye is a game time decision. Been drinking the rye a lot lately.

  16. Until they stopped making it, it used to be Jolt Cola & Jim Beam. Times change so I think I’ll try Classic City light and then the new Glory, Glory bourbon Creatures has after the game

  17. I’m finding light beers with some taste lately. Dogfish has a Slighty Mighty and a Light 30 Minute IPA. Classic City Lager has a light version now also.

BTW if you like Coors Light, you should try Keystone Light. It is the same exact beer, only the can is different. Graduated high school with a guy that works at the plant in Albany (30 years now) and he says it is the same. I’ve tried it and cannot tell the difference.

  18. My go-to for beer is a good west coast IPA, so if I can find the one you have posted, I’ll need to try that. Otherwise, Stone IPA is my default and I’ll likely start there around 5 or 6. Later in the evening, I’ll drift over to Traveler bourbon, which I’ve come to prefer over Buffalo Trace.

  19. Posting up at Cutter’s pregame, so probably Classic City Lager with a Shot of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof before heading to the stadium.

  20. This time of year its Pacifico’s and a night cap of bourbon when the sun goes down.

  21. About 5 days ago the weather for tomorrow was going to be rainy 1+ inch in the afternoon. Today it might rain a little in the morning, but only predicting .05 inch of rain. Might end up being a nice day to watch a game.

  22. Once upon a time it was WL Weller Special Reserve or Buffalo Trace. That is only special games now, like maybe SECCG or a semi final and even then it’s just a shot; I like it wayyy too much.
Now days I’m strictly a Blue Moon guy for games.

  23. Haven’t had a drink in 34 years and counting. The first year walking through the Arches into the insaneness was rough. Not so much since. I even turned down a belt from the Senator!

  24. Starts with Heineken 0 I really enjoy the taste. With age my alcohol consumption is becoming near zero. In case of emergency like UT it still turns to Macallen 15. Last week I really thought we would find a way to win till we didn’t. Being sober it’s easier to just move on from it.
