After watching this Saturday Down South tweet interviewing Jalen Milroe , my first thought was, “ruh roh, the Bammers aren’t going to like this”. Most of them won’t say it right now, because at the end of the day, they only care about one thing: nattys. If Kalen and Jalen can jump up and down and pat each other on the back after each “nice pass”, win football games and attain the one thing that drives the Gump economy, then all’s well.
Business trips, staying in the moment, and winning the next play has served them well for the greatest run of CFB success we’ve seen so far.
I’ll be very interested to see how things shake out September 28th when The Process East meets slap-happy look-at-me-and-what-I-just-did Crimson Tide football.

DaBoer may be a great coach, but I still can’t understand why he would replace Saban ? Im sure he’s confident and competent but it’ll take our game against them in September for him to see just how out of whack and spoiled those fans are. I mean all you have to do to be as good as Nick is win 6 natties in 15 years and never lose to any bad teams.

It will be interesting. That was an unfocused, undisciplined team the last couple of years. They rode talent and depth and could raise their game for moments like the seccg, but otherwise that place had gotten a bit stale.
This guy is going to do things differently and he has won big everywhere he’s been. More than one way to skin the cat.
I’ll admit I am curious as to whether it goes the usual way in this spot i.e., abject failure OR if they don’t look like a more focused and enthusiastic bunch than they have of late.
I think the transition will work for a minute in Kalen’s favor, he will continue to ride in Saban’s wake for a while when it comes to recruiting, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if Milroe isn’t Alabama’s QB by year’s end. He doesn’t have Penix’s accuracy and arm and that’s painfully obvious, especially when you see him under pressure. Reminds me of a Jameis Winston with less talent. A few bad games and the Gumps will be screaming for a change. Hell, they wanted to fire Saban after any loss to Auburn, so why would they give Kalen a pass?
Idk, the “smile and have fun” mentality reminds me a little of past years at Georgia…you’ll be good, but not elite. Images from spring camp and stuff like this has “relax” written all over it, and relax doesn’t seem to win championships. Only exception to that would be Auburn with Newton, maybe some of the Clemson teams, but Venables didn’t eff around with his defenses and that’s what made Clemson great during their run. Speaking of, Venables got an extension and currently has the 5th ranked recruiting class for 2025…he is quietly starting to build OU into what he wants it to be. Could be the process is going to show up again, just not where people would expect it to be.
Deboer is not and will not be Saban. His style will be different and so the culture will change. With the top talent year after year, he keeps winning. But a slip in the recruiting wars will mean ceding some wins on the field and creating a greater dependency on their selection of QBs and linemen. Bama is going to be one of the few…maybe many…top programs, but no longer hold the penthouse hostage. Kirby has a set of those keys already.
I’m pretty skeptical of this guy to be honest. I expect them to be good this year and the media will try to act like it’s just business as usual in Alabama but those paying attention and not just listening to the blabber will see it isn’t business as usual. I expect them to win a game some time in the first half of the season that will keep the illusion alive. I hope like hell it’s not against us but it might be. Then I expect them to lose to somebody and not look so hot doing it. The media will pretend not to see it and prop them up. Then one of two things happen, they lose another one and don’t look so hot and end up missing the SECC or they meet us in Atlanta and Kirby shows everybody who the new top team in college football is. At that point Firebomb’s wrestling promo callers go ape shit and the slide begins.
He’s got to build up some serious credibility before the questions inevitably start. Biggest thing he has to do is beat Auburn. You don’t beat Auburn and you won’t last. They fired Curry after a SEC championship season. Bammers have zero tolerance for losing to Auburn more than every once in a while. It’s overlooked but a major key to saban’s success was 5 straight losses to Auburn when he showed up. He got everything he wanted because they were so desperate to end that. Police force, alumni, press, compliance office, administrators, local vendors, everyone was brought in line. If Nick told them to shit, they all said: how much, what color?
Kaleb won’t have that. He’s coming in while they’re arrogant and entitled. What will be interesting is to see how NIL plays a role. The money is still green and they are committed. But if it gets pulled off the table by some know it all booster(s) wanting change, its over quicker than before. I think NIL could be an equalizer or an accelerant.
It will take time for the Saban mystik to wear off and Alabama is still loaded. I agree with most that recruiting will fall off as soon as the pundits get over the Alabama rating high for their recruits. When Saban announced his retirement the only real response from my Bama friend was when J Rob left them. He was crushed and said recruiting will take a big hit. Most of all we have to start to beat them regularly or we will still be suspect.
Deboer needs to keep Jalen away from live microphones.
