Dawgnation Makes a QBR Quantum Leap

Sometimes I wonder if the staff at the AJC wakes up like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, every day.

Wonder? Have they not taken a look at portal QBs under Kirby Smart? Rashada never saw the field, Stetson left but came back again, and that leaves JT Daniels as the lone true “transfer” to ever see playing time. What benefit would a portal QB bring to this team, Mike?

Also, it’s hard to judge progress or potential when a scrimmage is held where the defense has the clear knowledge that passing will be the name of the game and will play and adjust accordingly. From what I can tell, there wasn’t any reason to panic or to be overly optimistic, but it’s just a scrimmage. These are also the same people who attend press conferences and must know by now that news players won’t see the field unless they are next-level talented and usually have to practice in the system for a year before they start to see significant playing time.

Their mission is to “press on”. Sure. I think I’ll “tune out”.

    • Griffith not liking Gunner I’ll take as a positive. The guys nothing but a click bait pot stirring hack.

I’ll go the other route. Lots of those passes never get thrown in a real game. It was windy I was pleased with the upside of the QB play. I also see more people capable of catching passes. Now don’t ask about the Oline.

I don’t see Kirby adding a QB beyond one for depth. Baring injury this is Gunner’s team.

      • The offensive line is going to be a work in progress. You have 2 guys coming back from injury. You lose 2 guys (Wilson and Fairchild) who could have returned. You deal with the disaster that was Luke’s last year of recruiting. Offensive line is not a place where you fix your experience deficiencies through the portal.

Regardless of your opinion of Searles, you have to know that he has his work cut out for him between now and August.

  1. Exclusive: After a paltry G-Day outing where SEC champion Gunner Stockton only managed 309 yards in passing, UGA is in crisis mode with some sources saying that Nico flew into Athens Saturday night and Kirby is in crisis mode. Ah, this is the type of drivel we can continue to expect during the offseason from that chap. Next up? Perhaps we will get an “analysis” on why Nate Frazier should transfer to Montana State or how we have a naked cupboard at Tight End. Oof. Thanks to GTPR for keeping us grounded.

  2. Mike tries to be like Finebaum, go hard to one side of an issue to get clicks.

  3. I thought Stockton played well. This is such a nonsensical take.

It’s too late anyway. You’ve got to go with Stockton whether he lights the world on fire or sputters out a couple of weeks in. There is no alternative for 2025. Any portaling done at this point is looking for 2026 and beyond or adding depth because someone else leaves.

    • If Toppers International Showbar can’t up their game to entice more QB’s to at least stop by the Classic City during their visit with UGA football staff…then I blame bobo for any and all issues related to big urnge kuntry football inability to retain their qb’s…GO DAWGS!!

  4. As everyone inside the arena knows, the GDay scrimmage is the epitome of final evaluations by Kirby. Practices, meetings and especially Fall practice has no bearing. Those who showed out Saturday are in, the rest can go home.

Mike Griffith is nothing but a click bait journalist. I’ll admit I wasn’t sold on SBIV over JT at first, but I eventually came around. Mike never did. He was still trashing Stet on our way to a second Natty. Anything for a click………

  6. Kirby’s track record on picking the right qb that is on the roster is not Stella. He had Fromm on the bench when an injury bailed him out. Then Daniels & Mathis over Bennett.
Having said that, trust in Kirby. Happy we have him. Will go with his pick & love it. After the play that Stockton made vs Texas in high pressure, believe we will be better than ok.

  7. Uh-Oh. UH-OH! It’s a crisis! And be sure to patronize our sponsors.
