Damn, just damn.

The regular season is officially on life support.

It looks like Sankey is going to get his SEC championship game buyout as a result because there is no way he would have gone along with this:

Or this:

I really don’t see why they didn’t just go to 16 if they were going to expand. I don’t see the value in the 8 play-in games. Team 9 vs. Team 24? Wow. Compelling. Must see TV.

Will the Dawgs ever play a meaningful regular season game again?

FTMF.

I've been a Dawg my entire life. UGA was always my dream school where I received 2 Terry College degrees and met my DGD wife. I've been a season ticket holder for over 30 years and love the in-stadium experience over anything from Section HD. My first game in Sanford Stadium was the 1981 Auburn game where we clinched the SEC championship. The best game I've attended in person was the Midnight Miss against Ohio State (nite, nite!). The best home games I've attended were the 1984 Clemson game (the Butler did it) and the 2013 LSU game (that 4th down is still the loudest single moment I've experienced between the hedges). The game I love to win is against the Handbags (FTMF), and the game I hate to lose is the NATS (Tuck Fech).

  1. Why stop there. Just let every single team in the playoffs and play year round. It wouldn’t be much dumber than this.

  2. What a frigging joke. No way that many teams should have a shot at a Natty! And so it goes, faster and faster! Get me outa here Percy! Go Dawgs!!

  3. Dammit, ee! I get the email notifications. I saw the title of this post and immediately thought that Gunner had gotten hurt in practice and was for the year.

I mean, boo to the stoopid committee that only cares about money. On the bright side, we’re guaranteed a spot in the playoffs every year for the rest of our lives.

  4. Just damn! FTMF! Shit on Sankey, the University Presidents and every greedy coach who whine when being held accountable! This totally screws the value of seasons tickets and devalues the the playoffs as well. Just sux!

  5. Well that sucks. It was just when not if. The only bright spot I see is games on campus. Of course I’ll probably get the opportunity to buy my seats again. Upon further review I’ll probably have to pay to join something else to try to buy home tickets.

Even more reason for a 3 peat on winning the last SEC championship game.

  6. So, will the SEC Champion be determined the pre-1992 way by whichever team has the best regular season SEC record? May end up with some co-champions in that case.

  7. 24 is just too many. I am not interested in watching an 8-4 Wake Forrest play a 8-4 Arizona State in round one any more than I would if they were in the Chez-It bowl. I want to watch the Dawgs play our rivals and conference schedule and then see good on good teams in the playoffs. That said, with all of the recent parity there could be some good games early. Hell, I don’t know what I want anymore.

  8. The only thing that would slow this down is advertisers not buying ads for the 8-4 WF vs the 8-4 AS games On the other hand, the betting sites would double up on their ads to drive more betting is a greater threat to college sports in the long run than too many teams in the playoffs.

  9. How in the Fuck does the wwl negotiate with cfp, they both are Mickey’s property….wait n see how the advertising $$$$$ spend in 2027/2028, if any form of expectations are met, they’ll be headed for 36 if not 48 teams, the bowl games head to the chopping block, for the most part, we’ll be done as out right consumers….weaving the cfp and next level games is gonna be fun to watch, trust me on that one, the wwl will Fuck that whole show up, in 5 years college football will be reduced to a shadow of itself….Thanks for the memories!

  10. We’ve quickly gone from letting in teams not even in the top 10, to including Teams Also Receiving Votes. Ranger Russ is spinning in his grave. FTMF’s!

  11. Even the gators may make the playoffs in this format. That’s reason enough to hate the idea right there. I do love all the additional on campus games, what fan is ready to quit going to see their team at the end of the year. Not me, last home game was always the saddest game to me. Of course the Dawgs last game nearly puts me into a depression as the end of CFB for 8 months is nigh.

  12. Was the game last week not meaningful? Is the game this week (or the one in two weeks) not meaningful? We have dominated Auburn and Tech for the past decade, but we still want to beat our rivals – may it always be so!

I will miss the SEC Championship – it has always been *an event*, like a heavyweight fight must’ve been back in the day, let’s make sure we win the last 3!

  13. Go look at the current Top 25 and imagine the dumb tournament we will have where the bottom half is gifted an underserved opportunity to compete for the National Championship just to make a few more bucks and promote more betting opportunities. I will always follow my team, but I am not watching much of that bullshit. And don’t even get me started on how we no longer have a legitimate way to crown an SEC champ.
