Good morning afternoon! We are 92 days away from football. And 1 day away from Super Regionals in Athens. All the spring sports have been exciting and competitive for UGA this year, love to see it.
So, to represent 92 days in our countdown, here is card #92: Le Sack!

Haven’t done a Friday Afternoon Time Waster in a minute. Cojones emailed a bit ago and suggested fried chicken as a subject. Yard bird, fryers, pullets, the Gospel Bird… whatever you wanna call it. The best fried chicken I ever had was my granny’s, lawd that woman could cook! So, there’s always a proliferation of fried chicken joints in small, rural, southern towns in competition with the national brands. What’s your go to? What’s the place you’re gonna stop at any time you drive by it? For me it used to be Pap’s in Sylvester, alas, it is no more. My family’s favorite these days is Carter’s in Cordele (their gizzards are superb). Maryland’s is a close second but, none near me anymore and now that I’m retired, I don’t really go near them anymore either. So, have at it in the comments…
Go Dawgs!
For me, it was Price’s Chicken Coop in Charlotte before it closed in 2021 after 60 years. Was a shame, since it closed due to redevelopment in South End, and it still hasn’t been redeveloped.
My dads aunt Sue made the best fried chicken ever. It was gone first at all the family reunions in south ga. Made it lard. I fight anyone who says otherwise.
For me, it was Maryland Fried Chicken in Toccoa. I knew every time that I ate it that I was going to get the runs, but it was so good I didn’t give a damn. – PDawg30577
Mom would grab some from Clayton on the way to Rabun Gap to visit my aunt when I was a wee one.
Henry’s in Gainesville.
Road Kill Cafe in Elberta, Alabama
Willie Mae’s Scotch House in NOLA.
Pap’s … the best.
If ya got the right location, Wife Saver was a good option…GO DAWGS!!
As a fellow Slytown native to our esteemed Otis, man, it was good.
We would drive to town just to get Pap’s and take it back home to eat.
Mama’s Boy in Athens. Big Chic in Carrollton
I love fried all fried chicken. Kinda like bbq, sausage and another winner. Uncle Jake always said “ the worst l ever had was wonderful”!!!
Come on pups, ya’ll have got to get this one. This ain’t just an old guys thing!! Think hard!!!
My dad’s, deceased. My best friends mom, known as Granny Pat, deceased. Jenkins Buffet in East Ridge, TN, closed. These are 1-2-3 to me and always will be. Getting older has some serious drawbacks.
This is probably blasphemy, but my current favorite is the Bojangles on Fulton Industrial Blvd in Atlanta. I work in the area three different weeks a year & eat there 2-3 times each week. No other Bojangles, and I’ve tried a bunch, comes close. Get the two breast meal, my sides are always dirty rice & Cajun pintos. It’s usually busy but the service is great and always friendly. Cudos to their afternoon fry cook!
Bojangles is solid. Nothing wrong with saying it. The chicken biscuit with Bo-rounds is sublime.
The Biarrtiz Blitz!
Richard Tardits was one of my childhood heroes along with Hiawatha Berry. I heard a lot of crazy stories about good ole’ le sac. Wanted to visit his winery in France, but heard he retired. About fried chicken, I remember a road trip to Athens on game day and stopped by a Golden Pantry on US 129 on the way into town. My clothes smelled like fried chicken the rest of the day.
Local- Maryland Fried Chicken in Albany GA. Always assumed this was the original location. Slappey Blvd, funky cinderblock building.
Abroad- The late Chick-A-Dee in Camden AL. Best chicken biscuit I’ve ever had
The Comfy Chicken @ Homegrown in Atlanta, somewhere near Avondale is worth the drive. Signed Black Crowes photo next to cash register for bonus pts
