Used to rush for 300 yds in first half of single A high school football, then get pulled. God bless the boys that had to play him 2X in a season (back then, single A in his region played home & home during regular season). Heard stories in that part of southeast GA of boys that would attempt to dog pile tackle Herschel during a game and he would throw them off like rag dolls. Greatest football player ever!!!
I attended every game during his career except the last one. I fainted leaving my room on the way to the game after previously passing out at the reservation desk of the Marriott. Spent the next four days in the hospital for multiple tests, only for my doctor to tell me it was anxiety.
The glory years, until B2B. I feel blessed to have been in school with Herschel and Dominique, and lived long enough to see Jordan Davis and SBIV.
BTW, Herschel still has one year left of eligibility.
