  1. I’m 71 @ 71 days away. And…I was on the tracks in 1976 to witness the Dawgs 21-0 win over the Gumps. 😁

    • I have never seen a wilder week in Athens than the lead-up to that 76 Alabama game. Not in 1980, not in 2021 or 22, not ever.

    • Taking it to the bammers and getting a “W” is always a good thing ’76 and ’21, mine best track and just maybe best ever Sanford Stadium experience was 1978 vs nerdfootball…couple years later Coach Russell confirmed “Track People” were real, alive and well…GO DAWGS!!

    • Most incredible scenes ever in Athens. Beat the Bear and shut the town down!

    • He did go to UGA Law School. He’s an interesting guy. Athlete, scholar, interest in acting. Probably not what you’d expect from a linebacker 🤣

  3. Since the 21-0 game vs Alabama was mentioned in his blurb and already in the comments, best Georgia games you witnessed in person (whether in the stadium or from the tracks/bridge). For me (my first game in Sanford was 1981):

      • You could just say “the whole 1980 season” as an entry. You would not be wrong. I got to see every game in person that year. It was a glorious adventure. Nobody expected much out of UGA in August. The national media scoffed at us most of the year. But at the end, it was us. Didn’t think it would take le 41 years for another NC, but we finally got there.

    • I’ve seen lots of great games in Sanford (and away), but 1979 vs LSU and Charles (the Great) Alexander was the game that really cemented the Sanford Stadium experience for me. It was the first big game I attended as a student and the stadium was electric. After the game, I stayed in the student section celebrating with the other students and the band.

      • I was in Baton Rogue when wonderful Willie McClendon had a great game and our defense made Alexander look like anything but the Heisman candidate LSU was promoting.

          • He did! I was suffering through my first quarter of law school, at a party at River Mill (RIP), listening to Munson over the party commotion. Quite a game.

      1. 2021 Ohio St. It was like walking away from a plane crash unscathed.
      2. 2018 OU. The end was maybe the purest 2 minutes of football joy ever. Tremendous road trip.
      3. 1980 Florida. Pandemonium. Elation. Schadenfreude watching Florida fans take the L.
      4. 1976 Alabama. Wildest week I’ve ever seen in Athens.
      5. 1978 Nerds. Down 20-0. Clawed back into a lead that lasted long enough for Drew Hill to return the kick for a TD. The end around option pitch to Amp Arnold for the win.

      Idk how I can have list without these games, also fantastic.
      1980 TN. Hello, Herschel. Everyone has seen the Bates clip a million times. Not everyone remembers freshman LB Nate Taylor had to knock a fumble loose at the 2 (recovered by Pat McShea) to keep TN from scoring the game winner. TN scored a safety early, and the shriek from 90k TN fans was literally paralyzing. I’ve never been to LSU, but that’s the loudest moment I’ve ever heard. 87 Clemson is a distant second.
      2007 AU. The original blackout. Crazy electricity in the stadium.
      2022 TN. They were favored. It rained. Didn’t matter. The crowd was into it all day. UGA crushed them as inexorably as a python. Hearing them whine for weeks afterwards was just a bonus.
      2017 ND. As if Augusta National held a football game. Tremendous road trip experience, the nicest fan base I’ve ever dealt with. Beautiful, historic campus. And we won. Might be the night I started to believe Kirby really might be The Man.
      2021 Michigan. Still smarting from the SECC. Annoyed at the national media predicting the Big10 rep would bully us. Quite the opposite of what happened. Seeing Michigan people do the Walk of Shame mid 3d qtr as they headed for the exits was a sublime joy.
      1980 Sugar Bowl/ND. My first trip to NOLA. My first national championship game. My first experience with how polite most ND fans were. The last game of my last season as a student. A great way to go out.
      2022 TCU. a blowout, but the most enjoyable trip to the woodshed ever. After the stress of the semis, this was comfortable. Paid 17 bucks for a Corona tall boy. Didn’t care. Another awesome road trip and B2B NC.

      Looking at all this makes me realize I’ve been pretty lucky to experience all this, and lots more. I could probably list 100 games and still have more. It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog.

  4. 76 game was a classic. Bear had rooms in town and fans made noise all night. The one thing l remember is we had the ball headed toward the tracks right before half. We came out of huddle and Matt Robinson first lined up under right guard. He got right and l think we scored quick. Was in front of us and it feared my heart!!

    • I was at that one. That’s up there for me. Me & dad tailgating and listening to the Braves clinch on radio before the game.
      Also for me I’d say the bammer win in Indy, the game we made Spurrier quit, I was at Man Enough in bammer, at tech in ‘05 w DJ was a great ending and then went to the SEC Champ game the next week w lots of my good friends – helluva two week stretch! I’d also add the Old Man Football game was a great time in Mizzou. For me one Columbia was better than the other…

  6. Ok. I know it’s late but a game against the water lizards. We were down 27-13 at half. They came out and threw a pass. Johnny Henderson intercepted we scored and we whipped their ass. Ray Goff led the comeback. I know some folks have different takes on Ray, but he will always be a DGD to me. Dooley put him in a tough
    situation. But anyway , love him always!!

    • That was my first Florida game. It was awesome. Ray Goff is and always will be a DGD. He was not as successful as a coach as he was as a QB, but that doesn’t undo his contributions as a player for me.

    • It was so bad at halftime my brother and I almost got into a fight – with each other. FU fan laughed, saying “it’s all over but the crying”.
      I repeated it back to him as he was leaving following Dickey’s infamous “4th and dumb” call.

  7. Their coach was Charlie Pell. We got up the next morning, somebody had written in big letters on the beach “sorry
    Charlie “ ala starkist tuna. It was as classic!!!

  8. Fortunately attended most that y’all have listed. Remember Neyland running out of ice in the 1st half in 1980, damn it was hot. The leap to the field in NOLA later that year was higher than it initially looked 😄
    Not a significant game but very entertaining was South Carolina 1970. Saw Paul Gilbert come in for Mike Cavan down 21-3 in 2nd qtr. Lead them to a 52-34 comeback win.
