Columbia Housed – Damon Wilson Gets His Payday

If he wanted to go where they’ve abandoned the offense altogether, he might as well have left for Iowa or Michigan.

Must’ve been a nice deal. To go to the worst SEC Columbia instead of returning and being a key player for arguably the best defensive head coach in the country…no need to argue the DGD status on this one.

  1. I don’t get this one at all. Makes zero sense to me. I felt like he would have been a likely starter next year. Maybe this is another Marvin Jones Jr. situation and we won’t care 12 months from now.

  2. It seems seeing Nolan Smith on Sundays doing his thing wasn’t enough for Wilson to get his stats. I’m guessing there’s a lot more to this where Wilson wanted one thing and Kirby said, “That’s not the way we do things here.” In other words, if you want to be a 3 down player, you better be ok with setting the edge.

  3. Yeah EE, I see more than money going on here. Reminds me of the Brenton Cox scenario. Selfish players don’t last long with Kirby. It would have been hilarious if he went to Flr-ee-du.

    • Different from Cox … Kirby and Lanning had just had enough with his work ethic, his effect on team chemistry and his refusal to play the edge.

There hasn’t been anything negative about Wilson in the rumor mill. I just think he just wants to be responsible for rushing the passer for stats and wanted to go somewhere that will allow him to do just that.

  4. I’ve seen a lot of people get up in arms about this but I can’t get too upset. It’s not like he is 2012 Jarvis Jones.

    • I thought it would be Ohio State because he originally committed to them. I’m surprised it’s Missouri. That’s what makes me think there was more to this than I want my NIL.

  5. Another point why he may have went to Mizzu instead of maybe his preferred destinations. I don’t know how much of it goes on in college coaching but I’m sure it does. I believe Coaches still talk and I’m sure they call transferring coaches and have some in-depth conversations about transfer players. I may be wrong but I would want to know what is transferring into my program. And then some – Kiffin I see you – could care less. Just win baby…

  6. I’ve heard that Wilson screwed up and violated his Georgia NIL contract by accepting an NIL payment forcing his new school to pay the UGA NIL deal on top of its own deal. OSU wasn’t willing to do so and Mizzou was. It was thought initially he would stay at UGA because neither were going to be willing to play both.

    • If this is true (and I’m not saying it isn’t), then this dude (D Wilson) is not that smart!! Nor his handlers!! And that DOES equate on the field. Quite honestly, I don’t understand all the hand wringing over Wilson….I was never impressed!

      • Yeah although 6’5″, I think he was a bit underweight and just couldn’t add it
