We had to Herschel our way through this one. Maybe we should’ve been toss sweep left, right, and up the middle, because Beck had eye black in his eyes.
We beat Florida, that’s always great. It’s not that we did it, it’s the way we did it that’s concerning.
Still, FTMFs. Stay respectable, scamps.
Had it all the way.
UGA football is who they are, sometimes more, sometimes less, can rise to the occasion, watch the game film, look in the mirror and maybe, with just a little “lady luck” looking down on us, our season rolls on, keeping mine glycerin tablets close by, will always keep my heart from blowing the fuck up…GO DAWGS!!
I got pissed but never doubted… Told you guys that I work with one of the players (walk on) mom. She told me Thursday that her son said they were really, really banged up. Several injuries that they are having to play through anyway. So depth is going to play a big part down the stretch.
A win is a win. FTMF’s again!
Gator boards will be Lagway this, Lagway that.
Truly, when this team gets their head right, they are tough to beat. They are like the Bama teams of the early Saban era … they are Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger. They never quit when you take your best shot.
That’s connection and resilience.
FTMFs!
But I have lost faith in our passing game. It got to the point where every time Beck passed, I expected it to be a drop or pick. We’re far from a complete team. We’re not mentally strong. Can we only get fired up if we’re underdogs now? I just don’t get it. So much talent and so much mediocrity.
Not mentally strong? Our ability to remain mentally tough when things go wrong is remarkable,
Listening to the post game radio show and somebody just farted loud as hell, anyone else catch that???
Dayuuuummmmm
I didn’t get to listen to the post game radio show where I am, BUT, that would be pretty much the proper summation of this game. We didn’t quite shit the bed, but it was a loud noisy fart that easily could have had something sneak out.
As farts go, it was definitely a nice ‘un. And pretty loud too. 🤣
Carson isn’t the guy. He has the talent, but when pressured he makes terrible decisions. He’s the worst UGA QB to start multiple games since Quincy Carter. When UGA has needed him to show up, he’s crapped himself. SEC championship, Bama, Texas, and this one. UGA winning in spite of horrible QB play won’t last. It can’t last.
So who is coming in the portal? If neither Rashada nor Stockton are better than Beck, they better go buy someone from somewhere.
Eleven int’s in the last five games. Can’t run to save his life. Just how much worse could Stockton be? At some point Kirbs has got to put the hook in play and yank Beck out. Georgia will not be playing the third string Yale transfer next week or the week after.
Saban would have benched him at half. Kirby should know.
No, he wouldn’t have. He made 3 bad throws, 2 of which resulted in interceptions.
Sorry, ee. He had more than two bad throws. He only made one throw out of 40 that felt like only a top end talent could make. He’s throwing it behind guys, he missed Bell on an open RPO, and his accuracy is just not there. Everything else is wide open, a dump off, or a screen. When it’s not there, he forces it with bad consequences. He’s playing like a freshman.
Beck made a couple of bad decisions…and the third pick was a wounded duck because he was hit hard as he released it. I still have faith in the kid…he made some great throws and had a good run…The D had some hiccups too. Georgia was clearly the better team and Florida had a run of great luck that finally ran out on them and the better team prevailed. Yeah..their QB got hurt..but he had only two completions at that point…and don’t overlook that our best RB was hurt early too. ANY win over the lizards is sweet.
This is the way, Ugly.
Meanwhile, I hate Tennessee..their fans booing their place kicker.
What a low class stadium full of ignorant boneheads.
Cash Jone’s catch, run and score was a beautiful, Bowers like thing!!
Not pretty, but that’s four in a row. Go Dawgs!
Any win over Florida is worth celebrating. Sucks that Etienne got hurt. And a rib doesn’t heal quickly. Beck has lost his damn mind. But we beat Florida and I’m happy. FTMF.
Can’t believe I am the first person here to speak the clear problem: BOBO
Sorry folks. How can you not see this offense all year has played exactly like a classic Bobo offense.
No killer instinct. Can’t stomp people out early. Pads stats like a mutha fucka but we all know what we saw.
Thank god our defense is elite. Our special teams (at least punting and FGs) is elite. Our offense is inconsistent and decent.
Honest question: If Beck were shaving points, how would his play be any different?
Completely in jest….
He might try and make it less obvious!!
lol!!
Lambo insurance is higher…
Muck, I don’t know. Bobo is the QB coach so I’ll put that on him at.least partially. However, we were all screaming to run the ball at the end against Texas but Bobo had his foot on the gas. I wouldn’t call that no killer instinct. If anything, I’d say it was reckless.
As for the defense, they can look great for long stretches but then they just disappear. Did it again today in the fourth quarter against a 3rd string QB and a severely depleted Gator team. I don’t call that elite.
This team has lots of warts, but we’re still 7-1. Just get to the tournament and we’ll see what happens.
The 4th down call late against Texas was a bland predictable play call no motion, no doubt in what the team was doing. The D could pile in the box no hesitation. Overall playcalling is better than last time Bobo was in Athens but still not as good as Monken and old tendancies are showing up, INTs, 3rd down conversion problems, playing to the level of your competition far more often.
Bobo has been pass happy but the team as a whole especially on offense doesn’t put the game away. D came up big late today to gift the offense a chance to put this one away.
I’d have called a punt.
Box Scores can help get the W but don’t win it all especially when turn over margin is negative.
The receivers and QB are not on the same page. The radio team was talking about communication failures, we’re in November this shouldn’t be happening. I understand there are injuries and players off the team but the QB and WRs have been together, they should be on the same page. I put this on the coaches. Coley was a rehire and IMO his WRs were never that impressive. We had good ones with him in the past but as a whole, I think he could have developed much better. Bobo QBs were never the best with INTs, Stafford had 10+ INTs every year, Murray was under 10 one year. Tons of yards too but always INTs.
Both lines have problems holding the edge a problem that emerged with the rehire of Searels another coach I was not sad to see leave Athens.
I question the RB coach, the only RB that has come close to regularly producing came in as a developed RB. Again injuries but was have played freshman RBs before.
IMO gut the offensive staff with the exception of Hartley. UGA can do better. Errors on offense kept Texas and now Florida in the game.
Yeah my question is this: has the offense improved from game to game? No. Why? Well….It’s hard to disagree with you
Pondering all season, what’s wrong with Beck? Who knows, but I wanted to get all my thoughts in one place…
Bowers and McConkey gone. RaRa Thomas kicked off. Colbie Young headed the same way potentially. Anthony Evans out tonight. Even the Vandy transfer has missed time. The receivers who manage to take the field occasionally forget that their job is to catch the ball, even when it is accurately thrown.
So, run the ball, right? Etienne has missed time due to suspension and injury. And neither Robinson has been a contributing factor. Which leaves Nate and Cash, the former of which is still learning pass pro…. And so can’t always be left in the game on passing downs.
At least we can count on the line, right? Injuries there too have led to inconsistent pass pro and difficulty running at times.
Maybe it’s none of this and he’s still banged up from the Bama injury (possible) or not as focused this season as some have speculated (Lambo).
Maybe it’s none of the above. Or all of the above!
I do know two things..
First, quarterbacks tend to fare better when they have receivers they have worked with and trusted over a long period of time and a run game that is reliable.
Second, Beck looks like a shell of himself out there. I have a ton of respect for the kid because he paid his dues and earned his starting shot, so I sincerely hope he figures it out.
But it’s getting a little late in the year for a dramatic turnaround, especially given the running back injury situation and the fact that the receivers have been unreliable.
I remain cautiously optimistic but also realistic. The next two weekends are going to be serious tests, and I expect at least one of those to be an L if the offense doesn’t improve.
But, for tonight, FTMF (RIPRR) and Go Dawgs.
Announcers did point out that both Bowers and Ladd are leading their teams in receptions as rookies. That’s a lot of talent to be missing. Our receivers are pretty good but they don’t seem to get separation. And then Beck makes the head scratcher throws.
While true, UGA has recruited at the same elite level as Bama, Ohio State. UGA should have the talent to reload. We’re not a 2nd tier program developing for a run every few years.
When was the last time we successfully recruited an elite WR? Ladd was a nothing-star. I don’t think Bell was a top recruit in HS. Was Pickens a 5-star?
The superstar WRs don’t come to Athens. We have to develop them, and I think the really good offensive development coaches are gone now.
Pickens was a 5 star. The kid we have committed from Illinois just picked up his 5th star.
We don’t pay offensive skill guys as well as the competition. We invest in LOS guys more than the others.
And those same announcers had the ignorance to announce two UGA football student athletes were “guilty”, throwing more shit at the wall “all those FU injuries made the outcome different”, “it’s not like this is a blowout lead”, at one point, sounded as though the announcers were screaming to FU oc, the UGA football secondary is weak, throw, don’t run….when the game clock was low on FU time, that lovely announcing crew went all “Kirby is in touch with this team”, “he’s working every minute”…..#FTMF!!
I’ll never complain about how we beat the Gators. Life is good. FTMF’s.
Two of our turnovers gave Florida 10 points. Their two turnovers gave us 14 points. I take the win.
Beck is a head case. Can make great throws and bring us back, but makes idiotic decisions that put us in the hole to begin with.
Question, seriously, and not being contentious, but what are his “great” throws? He hits people who are wide the hell open, but nothing else. I don’t see great throws, great decisions, but I hear he gets the offense into great checks, but where? I don’t see great anywhere.
IDK, started the game on fire with throws in stride and on the money. And then he throws into triple coverage. Came back and made more good throws but then throws into coverage again. Did it again later though the Gators didn’t get the pick.
He did bounce back against both Texas and then Florida, though the problems were of his own making.
Some of the picks may be on his receivers but by this point in the season they should all know when the other guy is going to zig or zag. They don’t seem to communicate well.
He telegraphs passes like he wrote Morse Code himself. The passes that were open early in the game were because of scheme, later, no one was open. It’s one part looking in the primary receiver the entire way, another part scheme. Many of the replays of his interceptions, everyone was covered, so what’s his option? I don’t know how we can have 7 in the back half and have no one open, but Georgia sold their souls to protect him and not have a RB safety valve and you saw what happened. Beck is merely average.
Agree average arm and not much of a dual threat. Gunner should be developed enough to step in and have fewer INTs and more of a run threat.
JP, what would you do at this point in the season? Surely you don’t change QBs this late in the season? At this point you have to ride or die with Carson.
Russ, Saban would have benched him at half. He said on Game Day a couple of weeks ago that the greatest tool a coach has is his bench. Kirby uses it out of necessity.
And how many times did Saban use it in a game? I can think of one.
I can think of one for Kirby: he yanked Dwan for Stet vs. Arky.
Going with Stet over JT was a necessity?
This all seems every bit as good a take “as Kirby doesn’t get ‘it.’”
That’s the nuclear question. I don’t know what would be the best course but I don’t see him making great plays or passes. Conventional wisdom would be given the next guy up a chance, but honestly that guy is Rashada. Has more reps in starting for a GOF program and as many as Beck. I hate it but I don’t see Beck being the “man” and he hasn’t proved it all season. I think there’s something bigger than what we know going on at practice.
We have one qb who can get us to and win on January 20th, 2025.
Not 2. Doesn’t mean that we will get there or win, but no one is coming off the bench and getting that done. If we were mauling folks and blowing them off the ball and all we needed was a guy who could hand off and not fuck up, maybe.
We need a guy who can handle the entire offense going through him. Can it be handled better? Of course. But there ain’t no one sitting on that bench who can carry this team to a playoff appearance except Beck.
Yep. Good post, Derek.
Beck has not played his best this year. Some of that on him. Some of it on the players around him. Some of it on the coaches.
Frankly, Beck has more than owned his share of the issues.
I don’t know if we’re going to win the whole damn thing this year, but I do trust Kirby in that he believes Beck is our best option to do just that.
I’m starting to worry that the SBIV years were the exception to the Kirby rule: QB1 is a high-floor, low-ceiling pocket passer who must be surrounded by future NFL starters to play competently. However this season ends, Kirby needs to do whatever it takes in the off-season to get playmakers at QB and WR.
Let’s look at passing TDs and INTs thrown by the starting QB of the first 9 teams in the top 10, shall we? (TAMU is 10 till tomorrow, but they switched QBs in the LSU game.) One of these fellas is not like the others.
Gabriel (Oregon)- 18 TDs, 5 INTs
Beck- 17 TDs, 11 INTs
Allar (State Penn)- 12 TDs, 4 INTs
Howard (anOSU)- 17 TDs, 4 INTs
Ward (Miami)- 24 TDs, 5 INTs
Ewers (Texas)- 14 TDs, 6 INTs
Iamaleava (UT)- 9 TDs, 4 INTs
Leonard (Golden Domers)- 8 TDs, 3 INTs
Retzlaff (BYU)-18 TDs, 7 INTs
Carson Beck is Greg Talley’s love child.
Florida does NOT have the finest long snapper we’ve faced all year.
The dude has lost 2 games as a starter and made some clutch throws.
I am riding with Carson all the way in ‘24 just like i did with the mailman when all the noise was swirling.
let’s go whip ole piss
I feel bad for Beck, as much as you can feel bad for a millionaire, but he can’t do what he’s being asked to do. People scream about Bobo but he’s doing what Kirby wants done. Kirby wants to try to be explosive and attack vertically. Beck just can’t do that. And the roster is the roster for right now. I think not having Ra Ra and Colby Young is a bigger deal than people realize. We’ve got three receivers who are basically slightly different versions of the same guy and it ain’t working trying to be explosive with them. Yet we’re 7-1 and ranked second.
Beck can’t attack vertically? I haven’t seen that, but I probably don’t know what I’m seeing or not … Beck’s bad plays have come from bad decision making (and a couple of tipped balls) not poor arm strength. I think you are on to something about the roster. There isn’t a pass catching target on the team right now that defenses have to scheme around. Smith has great speed, but he’s not the best route runner and his hands are inconsistent. Lovett is quick and a good route runner, but not a true home run threat either from a top end speed or size standpoint. None of the tight ends are 19 or 0 – that’s not player bashing … it just is. Dillon Bell has size and route running but doesn’t have the speed to take the top off. To this point, no running back has shown the pass catching ability of James Cook or Kenny McIntosh (even Etienne).
The knock on Carson pretty much universally from people who know a lot more about football than any of us fans is he is inconsistent and unreliable on deep balls and that was before the weird season he’s having now even started.
From someone who knows less than all of us:
Other than the possible motivations suggested, I would have said much the same thing: taking too many risks with the ball when its not necessary to do so.
If Carson stops playing “hero ball” or worrying about being the first guy off the board and just lets the game come to him, he’ll be fine.
Not sure that there is a team that is better than us IF we do the easy things on offense: you throw the ball, you catch the ball and just trust that over 60 minutes the truth will be told.
The scary thing is that with the Laner up next, its going to be a very tough week to learn that lesson. Especially if all we have to go with is Frazier and Cash.
I wish we could reverse the schedule and come home and play tennessee first.
