Here we go again. Another post to provide you with an infusion of nostalgia to while away the quiet days where we don’t have college football. The game is easy and simple and, apparently, I’m not so good at hiding the clues, so let me try a little better this time.

We’re underdogs. The team we’re playing are favorites. They have what might be considered the best college football quarterback of all time, NFL career withstanding, but statistically. It’s defense versus offense in one of the biggest games on one of the biggest stages of all time.
What could I be referencing?
Rose bowl.
1977 Sugar Bowl vs Dan Marino and Pitt.
That was Tony Dorsett. Marino was 6 years later.
Indy.
I going to say 2018 Rose Bowl although I would never say Baker Mayfield was the best college QB of all time.
Therefore, I don’t have a clue. 🙂
With Chubb and Sony, hard for me to characterize that one as “offense vs defense.” Plus we had some serious defensive liabilities, especially in the defensive backfield, that season.
2021 is the one year I can think of where we had a really good season and the vast majority of the experienced talent was on defense.
Good catch! Thank you.
Only a guess. Time is 10 to 9 in Texaas?
Has to be Rose Bowl against Mayfield. He actually does rank very high statistically for college QBs.
Good waybac! I can’t figure out which one, so I’ll narrow it down to 3.
2017–Rose Bowl
2018–SECCG
2019–SECCG
SEC championship vs Burrow & LSU.
One of the biggest games of all time?
Seems to me that after Pickens squashed that bug, that we were a victim to be in that one.
Was our D that great in 2019?
Certainly they were more formidable than our offense, but I don’t know that we were that great.
Bill Stanfill taking the spur out of Spurrier?
My guess.
2007 Florida? Not the biggest game or stage but Tebow is widely regarded as the GPOOE. He also shit the bed in the pros.
2017 Rose Bowl was a much bigger stage and game, and Baker is statistically one of the best players ever, but not considered the greatest by anyone without the last name Mayfield. His pro career is far from a failure, too.
2007 cocktail party?
We sacked Timmy how many times? 7? 17?
Gotta be. Huge upset and the endzone dance.
1982 Sugar Bowl vs Dan Marino.
Yep – 2007 Cocktail Party was my first thought.
“Biggest stages of all time.”
The answer to that question is the Rose Bowl….
ergo 2018 Rose Bowl vs Oklahoma.
However, I agree with DDB, that 1966 GA/FL game vs Spurrier is hands down my favorite. Stanfield and Patton and Urk’s defense whupped the ditch lizards and denied them a SEC championship and we were the co-champions in Dooley’s third season in Athens.
