Dawgs down Queens 12-2.
Way to bounce back after a mid-week letdown, but let’s ponder this:
Maybe, just maybe, especially after our loss to West Carolina, we need to know how to feed the short outfield instead of the trees?
Wes was supposed to address this with NIL and the portal. But pitching and situational hitting are still important, amirite?
The trends are troubling for sure. The opponent pitching will vastly improve next weekend. Hopefully Ishikawa will be back soon. Make me a believer Wes.
Good pitching beats good hitting.
and vice versa.
Uhhhhh…the team ERA is like 3.4. Without Ishikawa.
I would say there has been a difference from last season. Fewer solo HRs. Guys are getting on base. The WCU loss isn’t a big deal. Crazy game for sure. It happens. WCU is 9-3 now so it isn’t like they are a garbage team. Check LSU’s mid-week results this season. Hell, one of their losses was to a 3 win team and the Tigers are supposed to be one of the best teams in the country.
The biggest issue for me so far has been figuring out first base. Defense at that position has been shaky.
Insane bat speed
“Chicks dig the long ball” and “analytics” have rendered situational hitting a thing of the past. Just look at MLB. In 2000, you had 53 players that hit .300 or above. By 2025 what number had fallen to 7. EVERY player now swings for the fences on every pitch (remember being told to just shorten up and put it in play if you had 2 strikes). It used to be embarrassing to strike out at record rates, but now it’s just part of the game. Moving runners over, bunting for a hit, sacrifice bunting, hitting the other way, hit and run…….all just quaint oddities from the past. From watching the game on TV (MLB) the announcers or color guy are almost always former players. They are more old school, and you can hear their frustration with the new strategy as well.
Why I really don’t care for the game anymore along with some of the silly rules changes in MLB.
They are doing their dead level best to destroy the game that WAS timeless with the rule changes. We were told that the DH was a communist plot to destroy America (by destroying the Great American Game) when it was introduced in the AL in 1973. The NL remained “pure baseball” for decades after that. Once they went over to the dark side in 1997 the changes have accelerated. The game I loved is becoming hard to recognize. There’s a part of me that does not want to let go, but with each ridiculous rule change (like ghost runners in extra innings) that slips away. Had they had ghost runners in the past, one of the most memorable moments in Atlanta Braves history would never have happened.
