We’ll probably explore some more music time wasters down the road but, let’s try a different theme today. Football season has ended and spring sports are ramped and ramping up. I have been blessed to witness 3 of UGA’s Nattys in football in my lifetime and they were nothing short of glorious!

But, what about other sports? UGA is competitive in several major spring sports with a lot of hope for the baseball season, basketball is was improving and tennis, golf and track are solid. So, other than football, what sport would you most like to see UGA win a Natty in?

For me it’s baseball. Baseball is a close second to football in my favorite sports to watch. I wasn’t paying attention in 1990 when the Dawgs went to Omaha and brought back the hardware. I’d really love to follow an entire season all the way to a win in Omaha just once in my life.

So, how about it Refugees? In what sport would a UGA Natty warm the cockles of your cold cold heart?
Go Dawgs!
P.S.: On a music related note, the fam and I are traveling to Lilith Live in Fayetteville to see Dwight Yoakam tonight. Anyone got a recommendation on a good restaurant for dinner tonight? How about breakfast tomorrow? Thanks!
Track and field. One on one on the track and individual talent in the field events.
Baseball for me as well, Otis.
Men’s basketball. I won’t live to see it, though.
Nor will your kids, grandkids, or great grandkids.
Desperately want to see mens basketball be a consistent, quality program again. I got spoiled by Tubby when I was on campus and those were some great memories.
And I realize I said again…maybe I’m thinking Hugh Durham days.
I was fortunate to be in Albuquerque at the Pit to see the games. Hugh and his family were great people. Dumb move to fire him.
CWS
I much prefer to watch baseball to basketball, but I’d rather a natty in basketball. It would benefit the school more.
Same here.
We really should be consistent contenders in both. At least we are again in baseball.
Franks off exit 56. It won’t look like much but the food is great and the deserts are even better. I’ll be watching Dwight with you, taking my daughter to she him.
We passed by it on our way in, I believe that is where we will be headed this evening. Would love to meet up and shake your hand at the show if we can work it out. Let me know.
Enjoy. I am in sec 3 row G seat 1 on the aisle. Come on by.
We’re in section 5 accessible seating. Once I get my bearings I’ll try to look you up.
Great recommendation! The Shrimp & Salmon Florentine was excellent. Thank you.
The Broadway Diner just south of the square on Ga. 85 (on the right in a strip mall) is great for any meal…very busy and excellent food and service and the prices are pretty good too. Huge menu for all meals.
Sounds like breakfast to me, thanks!
I would choose baseball too. I was in college in Boulder, CO that spring so I obviously didn’t pay attention to the regular season, but when I was home in Atlanta for summer break I watched the CWS coverage on TV. I think if I remember correctly I was in Hilton Head at the beach with my family for some of those games.
Wes Johnson seems to have the Diamond Dogs back in contention now so maybe we will get something really fun soon to carry us into the summer.
Baseball for sure. I love football but was never very good at it. Baseball was my thing and my first love.
Any and every event/sport UGA is scheduled… fuck it, win ’em all…GO DAWGS!!
If sound system is good, you will be BULLDAWG Happy. Seen him couple of times. Love me some D- Wight!!
Oh, love to see baseball & softball. Coached softball for few years. Ain’t nothing like a bunch of girls yelling and carrying on the dugout. My teams will always be Special. Still, Hate everybody but us!!!
I lived in Normaltown for years and Allens/Foxzys was my hangout. They had a framed Tshirt signed by the members of the 1990 Baseball team hanging on the wall and I lusted after it for a long time. When Allens closed they auctioned everything (from salt shakers to booths, grill equipment, and the stuff hanging on the walls) including that Tshirt. I had just gotten married , money was tight, and the bidding for that shirt quickly increased past what I could afford…every now and then I’ll check eBay for it but it’s never showed up…

The answer is men’s basketball.
I rushed the court in 2003, hours before the Harrick/Adams/Schapp fiasco.
But that program is cursed.
My sneaky backup is ice hockey. It would require UGA investing heavily into a non-traditional sport and more than one upwards classification, but my goodness how glorious that would be.
Oops!!!
Flag football. My 9th grader wants to play for a UGA flag football team (not club). This year her HS team got to the playoff semi finals, she started at QB and was 10th in all GHSA classifications in passing yards.
Was that the lovely young lady I met tonight? Was great meeting you and chatting during intermission.
Yes sir and likewise. Keep up the good work.
Baseball, basketball, gymnastics, equestrian
Tennis, men’s or women’s.
Women’s is in as good or better shape than ever. Men’s has really fallen off the map. They’ve gone from successful seasons ending with NC’s or at least a spot in the Final Four to just being happy to be ranked at all these days. They got lapped in the facilities wars and were way too late to respond. Totally ceded their place in the competitive landscape.
Screw Greg McGoofity! Can we strike his name from the list of tennis alums? He personally screwed UGA tennis for a long time.
I totally agree that McGarrity screwed Georgia tennis. As other schools upgraded their tennis facilities, Georgia failed to keep up and lost the opportunity to host NCAA championships for several years. However, IMO the real culprit for the decline in UGA men’s tennis was Manny Diaz.
I think Manny was an incredible coach, but when he signed his son’s to play for the team and then played them over better athletes, I think team morale and recruiting cratered, and that was when men’s tennis went from a perrenial champ to middle of the pack in the SEC.
#33 UGA men’s tennis upset #5 LSU in Athens yesterday.
