We primarily cover football around here. Basketball (let’s just not talk about it) and Baseball to help fill the gaps. The occasional celebratory stories for other programs, but this…this is a first.
That’s awesome, and not something I expected to see come up on the social feeds, either.
Now I love hockey, and aside from watching Premier League in the offseason, I do watch a hockey game or two and really loved the Atlanta Knights back in the 90s. I’ve been meaning to get to a Rock Lobsters game but I might need to start finding my way up to Athens for UGA Hockey.
They are a club sport, and play in the College Hockey South Conference, which, as the site describes it:
About
College Hockey SouthFounded in 2008, College Hockey South (CHS) is a 29-school, 45 team intercollegiate hockey conference that spans eight southeastern U.S. states. On February 11, 2022, College Hockey South rebranded from the South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference (SECHC). College Hockey South is a non-varsity Men’s D2, D3 and Women’s hockey conference. As the CHS continues to expand and grow its fan base, teams are seeking out larger and more exciting venues; conference games and the championship playoffs are becoming sought-after events.
Oddly, someone help me out here, I see Georgia is in the D1 portion of the league yet the website has no information. I had to go to the actual UGA Hockey site to find out information, to which Georgia appears to be first with an 18-8-1 record in the D1 branch of College Hockey South.
Oh, and there’s a Ladies Team, as well, that’s doing well and are making the tournament this year in the Conference.
Speaking of Ladies…we pulled an upset in Stegeman last night:
Go Dawgs, eh?
Turning Stegman into an ice arena is an excellent start to fixing MBB.
