Friday Afternoon Time Waster

I keep telling myself, “Self, pick something other than music this week.” And then Self replies, “Nah, we’re doing music again. Deal with it.”

Football season’s wrapped, so I’m guessing most of y’all have stashed the tailgate rigs, grills, and coolers until next fall. (Quick side question: Does anyone actually tailgate for basketball, baseball, tennis, or track? Or is that just a football thing in these parts?)

Anyway, let’s keep the party going with tailgate music. Everyone loves swapping playlist ideas with their crew, so today we’re crowdsourcing the ultimate Dawgs tailgate playlist—offseason edition.

The rules (to keep this sane):

  • Suggest one song only, per person.
  • Any genre goes—classic rock, country, hip-hop, whatever gets your group hyped in the parking lot.
  • I’ll compile the suggestions into a master list (maybe even throw together a special mix if we get enough traction).
  • If we don’t get enough responses today, we’ll do a Round 2 to fill it out another day.

I’ll kick it off: “Start Me Up” – The Rolling Stones (because nothing says “kickoff energy” like that opening riff).Your turn, Dawgs—what’s your one must-have tailgate banger? Drop it below and let’s build this thing!

Go Dawgs!

  1. Any playlist that does not include Clisby Clarke, James Brown, and the Redcoat Band is not a legitimate UGA tailgate playlist.

    • Also a it must include classic Munson audio and let’s toss in Scott’s call of Ringo’s interception.

  2. We play several, but right before kickoff if we’re watching at home it is religious mandate that we listen to American Trilogy. We’ll even pause the game to ensure the kick doesn’t happen until we’ve heard it through.

  3. Here’s one not many people know that belongs on any adrenaline-encouraging playlist.

  4. Good topic and SO many choices … I would use the same strategy for this as choosing a song for karaoke. Choose a high energy song that a majority of people know. Not controversial. Something with not too many lyrics with a singable chorus for group tailgate participation.

Millennials undisputed karaoke champion … Mr. Brightside by The Killers

  5. Cannot disagree with cltdawg, but I’m going Jessica – Allman Brothers Band

  6. Fwiw, I have a first cousin who played soccer at a SEC institution and my people did tailgate before every match. Not a large group as you might imagine, but it did happen. Booze, food, music, the whole thing.

If I can only have one:

“Bulls on Parade” as loud as it can be played.

To me the title is a great metaphor for a football game, especially for RTDB. Plus, the song kicks ass.

  7. I tend to keep it on a lower key for my tailgate playlist. Like others have mentioned, I sprinkle in songs from the Redcoats. I also have a heavy dose of Athens bands in my playlist so, I’ll offer up either “Porch Song” by WSP or “Wear It Out” by the Future Birds.
