  1. I’m sad he passed and feel for his family. No the right time to re hash how the university was run during his reign as king.

  2. My sincere condolences to his family.

He definitely left his mark on UGA.

Once upon a time I had a caterer friend who was a regular vendor to the athletic department. For several seasons she gave me sideline passes for pregame. Often Michael Adams would come up not having a clue who I was shaking my hand saying how much he appreciated my presence. Knowing my pass could be traced back to my friend I just smiled and said thank you.

  3. I say we repost this at a later date, after the appropriate grieving time has passed, and let everyone say what they really feel. I’m only half-kidding.

  4. My GrandMother always said, when someone passes, keep your mouth shut unless you have something nice to say.
I was with her one time as we looked down on this man in a casket, she said, “He was a good Whistler”.

  5. Fortunately, I finished early enough at UGA to have Fred Davison’s signature on my diploma.

  6. I’ve always been one of the few people here who considers him a pretty great University president. Yeah, he didn’t like the WLOCP name or many of its traditions and I understand he pissed off some people with changes to parking, tailgating, and a few other things. But where a President matters most for a University, he performed tremendously:

    – tripled our endowment
    – tripled our research funding
    – $1 billion in new facilities
    – dramatically increased the academic ranking of the undergrad and many grad programs
    – significantly increased both enrollment and the competitiveness/selectiveness of admission
    – bonus: hired Mark Richt, and generally got our football program on the right track

He made every UGA degree more valuable thanks to the increases in academic reputation, ranking, and admission selectivity.

    That’s a pretty great tenure.

    RIP Michael Adams.
