The bowl season is churning along, and there’s much ado about nothing. Particularly this upcoming game:
I once had a colleague who switched schools as a principal and I asked him how he liked it, and he responded “a toilet is a toilet”. Such is life.
The debate on whether the SEC is overrated or the B1G is overrated might be as debatable as “less filling, tastes great”.
In other words, it’s a matter of perception. The SEC is propped up by an indescribable run by Saban in the 2010s, and B1G is propped up by tradition, “blue bloods” and media money. Not Mickey, but damned Yankee journalism that makes Paul Finebaum look unbiased by the most innocent of observers.
The B1G is undefeated this bowl season. The ACC sucks, but we didn’t need stats for that. The debate will rage on, but at what point does the scoreboard count? Forget the record, look at the opponents…and the SEC is eating its own this bowl season, with two matchups being SEC vs SEC. Stats don’t matter, but perception does…amirite?
So what’s the common denominator? Championships? Records? Does bowl season even matter?
And what point do Oklahoma and Texas even count as SEC teams?
You colleague who switched schools sounds real dedicated to his career. 🙂
Does the bowl record count for anything now for a conference? The coaching carousel, the player churn, and the playoff have sucked the life out of these games (I didn’t even know the Greater Anderson Cow College and Ped State were playing yesterday until a MBG post on X).
After reading the anti-SEC ragebait on social media, I hope the league wins the rest of its postseason games until the Dawgs play them.
Came here to post the exact same thing. Bowls are simply entertainment fillers for holiday boredom. Don’t get me wrong, I love the entertainment, but we can stop there. Nothing else about them matters.
Personally I’ll never see Texas or Oklahoma as SEC teams. They were an attempt by college football to show us we aren’t as good as we think we are. Neither have won anything that matters. Texas keeps throwing money at it and it keeps not working.
I’m rooting for an epic b10 collapse on playoff weekend 0-3. That the b10 no longer has its liars and losers divisions doesn’t change their hypocrisy or that of the national media promoting them.
I hope Indiana gets crushed. I can’t believe I’m already reading stories saying coach Cig is the premier head coach in CFB.
Is Indiana or Ohio State REALLY that good and did they actually beat anyone worth a shit? When both teams only play 3-4 decent teams each year, what does it matter if they play 9 total conference games? WHY the SEC caved and went to 9 conference games is beyond me. UGA’s conference schedule the next 2 years looks brutal as the strength of the SEC is unmatched vs the other conferences and the “committee” is so hung up on the overall record vs WHO you actually play.
Happy to hear the Texas Tech coach call-out the system and state the case that the G of 6 need their own championship playoff using the bowl system. He said while it’s inevitable the CFP goes to 16, Notre Dame has to be in a conference to face a similar schedule as the rest and conference championships should basically be the first round. Indicated there are already discussions and there may be movement this Spring to fix the system.
It is funny to me how much crap the SEC got for wanting other SEC teams to have success in Bowl season in early 2000s. Most overlook that the SEC was being mistreated with bowl and championship selection, so many wanted other SEC teams to have success in out of conference matchups to prove the SEC’s might and potentially help to get the benefit of the doubt when your team was being considered for a BCS Championship game or NY6 bowl when they meant something.
Then the SEC took over the sport, and we no longer needed to cheer for rivals. Yet we still got flack for it even though we were no longer participating in the behavior.
Now what does the BIG have to say for themselves? They love their rivals more than their own Alma Mater in many cases. So desperate to dethrone the SEC.
