Tuesday Funnies: Death of a Season

Here’s some Tuesday morning humor for you.

What’s the over/under on the total number of SEC head coaching openings by season’s end? LSU, Arkansas, Florida…Auburn, Kentucky, Carolina? If we said we’ll set it at 6, will we hit the over and who else is next to go?

  1. I think you ride the Over because there could be in-conference openings based on who fills what jobs: Ol Miss, Mizzou, if Dabo leaves Clemson does Oklahoma open up, Sark to the NFL? Does Miss St fire their 0 for the SEC coach just to make a point?

    • Yeah..we’re going to see a chain reaction.
It’s going to hurt the SEC for a couple of years until the newbies coach and build their teams up to about where they are now.
Then for a few years there will be some re-built parity…and the delusional fan-bases and boosters will start the cycle of coach blame all over again (see USC-east for example).

  2. I may be wrong but I think Bama’s had a charmed season so far.. Just the opposite of Auburn’s (one play away Hugh) and M State’s (though the decison to punt WAS stupid).
Just as Freeze’s season crashed on just a few plays and unlucky breaks (not complaining here..just observing)
DeBoer’s season flourished on just a few plays and lucky breaks.
So Freeze is on the hot seat and DeBoer is off it..for now.
And did not Beamer’s and DeBoer’s fortunes flip on that one fumble play (an iffy call by the officials)?
And am I nuts to think Auburn may very well win the Iron Bowl this year? They’re going to be strongly motivated for sure.
If they do..and then TAM beats Bama’s ass in the SECCG…that will be three losses and several near misses. Unless he can take them deep into the CFPs, DeBoer may find himself with warming buttocks.
Had only a few plays not gone his way, DeBoer’s name would likely be in the coaching change turmoil.
😁 Freeze should troll Bama by inviting Gus to the game and having him sit next to his OC in the coaches booth.)
My point is that parity is so strong in the SEC that Lady Luck, poor officiating and schedule scheming by the conference execs can make or break a season as much or maybe even more than coaching acumen.
For example (See Tyler Simmons wasn’t off sides)..one bad call, break, whatever you want to call it..negated a certain National Championship for one team and handed it to the other. Another example…Shane Beamer went from being carried off the field on victorious shoulders to having his grave being dug by irrational fans..in the amount of time it takes to fumble a football.

  3. Given the number of high profile jobs already open. That drives up the cost of the already stupid contracts. If I was making the call I would wait till after the playoffs and current mania ends. Look around and probably decide to wait till the first losing streak on 2026 when hopefully there’s less high demand.
